So last night I was on-call, this week has been really busy worked 8am to 10pm Monday, 8am to 5pm Tuesday and then finally crawled home from clinic at 8pm last night, went back for an hour at 10pm, so home in bed 11.15pm. Call at 12.30pm from really distressed client out of bed dressed back to clinic treat sick dog back to bed 1.45am.
2am, 3am, 4am the blackberry bleats as penis enlarging very important e-mails arrive. Waking me each time. 5am limpet child attached to my back. So rough amount of sleep maybe 3 hours mainly due blackberry.
Okay so I keep my phone in the bedroom when I am on call, but this is life or death stuff. After 10 years I know that there are no middle of the night pallet emergencies for his work. So AIBU to ask him not to keep the blackberry by the bed.

YANBU. If it was my DH's believe me it would only wake me up once. A subsequent wake-up would result in me hurling said blackberry out of the window.

pontypandy · 24/06/2010 13:49

YUNBU tell him to turn the dam thing off or if he has to have it on to sleep in another room when you are on call.

My dh uses his phone as a alarm clock so this sometimes happends to me but i cant very well complain as i am a sham and he has to be up at 5am every morning

wickedwitchofwaterloo · 24/06/2010 13:50

Can he not put it on silent? The little red light isn't too annoying I don't think??

pontypandy · 24/06/2010 13:50

sorry i ment YANBU and lol @ "hurling said blackberry out of the window"

babysplotface · 24/06/2010 13:50

YANBU.

He can turn the bleepy bit off - if he can't use it properly that's a bit lame.

Anyway, is he actually answering these e-mails? If so, he is on call i.e. working so he should sleep in another room.

BertieBotts · 24/06/2010 13:51

Can he have it on silent? Maybe on vibrate in his pocket/under his pillow or something if he really needs to be able to pick the calls up. As long as that didn't vibrate along the bed and wake you up too!

SilveryMoon · 24/06/2010 13:53

YANBU. I have a blackberry nand it is very annoying with the ammount it goes off so when we go to bed I tend to put it on silent.
I only do that instead of turning it off because I am a ba sleeper anyway and tend to catch up on fb while dp's asleep! But very quietly

Lizcat · 24/06/2010 13:56

Thank I am not unreasonable. None of them are urgent e-mails last nights were two selling penis enlargement and one selling viagra!!!!
The annoying thing is he can sleep through anything last night phone rang light on talk to client make two more phone calls get up get dressed light off, hour later back use loo in on suite light on undress light off. This morning 'did you have to go out in the night?'!!!!

iskra · 24/06/2010 15:37

Definitely not unreasonable!

OrientCalf · 24/06/2010 15:47

he can put it on silent surely, or silent for emails if he is worried he might get an emergency call

BigBadMummy · 24/06/2010 15:50

The beauty of a BlackBerry is that you can have it turn itself off at a certain time and on again at a particular time.

You can also set up your own profile. Mine doesn't do anything other than flash when I get an email. But it does beep for a text.

It lies face down on the bedside table as it is my alarm clock.

Your DH is BU to have it making noises all night.

lucky1979 · 24/06/2010 15:56

Stop letting him sleep through it! If he wn't turn the noise off, wake him each time and say "Darling, your phone just beeped - I think you have an email". Make sure he's properly awake as well.

That should make him turn it off pretty quickly.

Sadly crackberry use in our house has been the topic of many heated discussions. We both have pretty demanding jobs and could never ignore the evil red blinking blackberry eye alerting us to another work email at 9, 10, 11, 12pm. I used to check mine last thing at night and first thing in the morning in bed. It was obsessive. DH was no better. We now have a rule that blackberries stay in the kitchen so that even if we're just watching TV, one of us isn't tip-tapping away on the wretched thing. Unless you are a doctor or medic or it has a particularly effective vibrate function there is no call for such devices in the bedroom

Bewler · 24/06/2010 16:16

....so YANBU!

palmermonkey · 24/06/2010 16:32

YANBU - its me with the blackberry but i leave it as far away as possible at bedtime. Even on charge it has a clock as a wall paper that seems to light up the room too much! and once your awake that blinking red light can send you potty!

Bewler · 24/06/2010 16:49

its like the eye of mordor!
