To think that very christian people often look different?

I don't mean this in an unpleasant way. I just find that sometimes when I meet people I think "you look like you are a deeply religious christian" and generally I am right, they do turn out to be. I don't think it works on less committed christians. Is this like having gaydar? Does anyone else have this experience? What is it I see in their appearance that makes me think this? Am I just kidding myself about this in some way?

I did once meet a Muslim.......and - she did actually look like a muslim too

Oblomov · 23/06/2010 15:28

they look au-naturel. godly. gentile. softly softly. everyhting about them is just .... so.

my mum looks like this and so does every very godly person i know.

funny thread.

SloanyPony · 23/06/2010 15:28

Do you mean sort of like this ?

AgentZigzag · 23/06/2010 15:29

Like the one on the right OP?

wildstrawberryplace · 23/06/2010 15:29

I kinda know what you mean. I had that feeling about a new neighbour, only it turned out that she was a scientologist which was actually rather scary and made me wish she was a committed Christian.

I think op you need to give some examples, I can say that there are some people I have met who I have been surprised to discover are christians, maybe they had a rough life has treated them badly edge to them that I didnt expect to find in a religous person, ridiculpous when you make yourself think about it.

Oblomov · 23/06/2010 15:30

and when i say godly. i mean REALLY REALLY godly , people that i know. like an inner softness and beauty that means they must believe in god / only god could give them. you know when you meet someone and they are so loving, so incredible beautiful inside. they always turn out to be christians. true i tell you.

SloanyPony · 23/06/2010 15:30

Or even this ?

whobuilttheark · 23/06/2010 15:31

I'm a Christian and I think it's a shame if people don't notice a difference (not into shoving it down peoples' throats either btw).

notconvincedaboutthis · 23/06/2010 15:31

Well the hairstyle thing I think is about having a tidy but simple hairstyle - if you look at Jonathan Edwards - mentioned earlier in the thread his hair is longer an more styled looking now. As I mentioned to begin with, this doesn't apply to all christians, just the very observant ones.

Father forgive me

Hullygully · 23/06/2010 15:32

You can still tell

whobuilttheark · 23/06/2010 15:33

sloanypony i know a few christians who look like that! pmsl

asteri · 23/06/2010 15:34

pmsl at the "Joyce" album cover sloanypony does the OP only ask people dressed in black with white collars around their neck? what a strange thread

AgentZigzag · 23/06/2010 15:36

Peter Owen-Jones is like that oblomov, he just oozes it.

@ sloany, that's barely legal.

LynetteScavo · 23/06/2010 15:37

Commited Christians tend to smile a lot.

'Tis quite unnerving.

Oblomov · 23/06/2010 15:50

reverend

ZigZag. That is EXACTLY what I mean.

Floopy21 · 23/06/2010 15:53

All the deeply Christian people I know about in the countryside I live in look frumpy. Not so with Townies IMO.

funnysinthegarden · 23/06/2010 16:00

ahhh, yes. Whenever there is something odd that I can't pinpoint about a person, it usually transpires that they are a christian.

AgentZigzag · 23/06/2010 16:01

I accidently caught a bit of one of his progs, and he's just such a nice bloke. Although the OP does have a point with him, he does look a bit...alternative?

mangoandlime · 23/06/2010 16:07

Oh My Gawd...those album covers are just too Mulligan & O'Hare for words!

Butterbur · 23/06/2010 16:08

I've met three people in my life who exuded a sort of peace and happiness.

One was a devout Christian, the other two devout Buddhists.

Perhaps there's something in what the OP says. I'm an atheist by the way, but I envy them whatever it is they've found.
