Time off school for football

AIBU to be a tad annoyed that both my DD and DS's schools are closing early tomorrow so the children can go home and watch the football? Especially considering the hoops you have to jump through to take the kids out of school during term time.

My DD1 thinks that her school is being very unreasonable for not closing early tomorrow. The school bus leaves for our village at 3.30pm so she will miss half the match.

I'm half tempted to say sod it, stay at home and watch the match darling!

TartyMcFarty · 22/06/2010 19:44

Seems a lot of businesses are shutting up shop too. Think it's ridiculous to expect working parents to sort childcare for the sake of a match, especially at group stage (and I'm a teacher!)

GypsyMoth · 22/06/2010 19:45

lol....it might be the last chance they get tomorrow to wear their t shirts!!!

i have kids in 3 different schools....only one of those schools is doing the footie....the rest will rush home and be just in time

TheArmadillo · 22/06/2010 19:46

YANBU

We only got told today that the school were doing this.

Fucking ridiculous.

IT's only a football match for christ sake.

choufleur · 22/06/2010 19:46

YANBU. It's a football match.

compo · 22/06/2010 19:47

Crumbs I hope we win otherwise bedtime will be a nightmare for all these parents of kids believing the hype

MummyDoIt · 22/06/2010 19:48

Absolute madness. It's a game. How many of the children are really that interested? Surely this is more for the staff than the teachers? Just wondering if the schools closing have a lot of male teachers and the ones staying open are mainly staffed by women. Our primary school isn't closing - we only have one male teacher.

GypsyMoth · 22/06/2010 19:49

will still be a nightmare at bedtime if we win!! they will want to stay up and celebrate

think this game is more than just a group game tho

ladysybil · 22/06/2010 19:50

having read lots and lots and lots about this recently, amd rather gutted that my kids seem to be the only ones going to schools that arent letting them out early, or showing it to them.
am rather shocked at my own attitude.

choufleur · 22/06/2010 19:59

Well if we lose at least we won't have to worry about time off for subsequent matches.

MrsC2010 · 22/06/2010 20:00

YANBU. I'm a teacher, and none of the schools in my area are doing this...I think there would be a few raised eyebrows in the staff room if this were tried.

YANBU. Local school here closing early tomorrow as well. It's ridiculous.

Disenchanted3 · 22/06/2010 20:05

Our schoolhas a CHOICE. You can collect at 2:30 or 3:30.

GypsyMoth · 22/06/2010 20:06

well i'm guessing it will happen every 2 years then....it will now become the norm....and time off for olympics too perhaps?

at my boys school parents have the OPTION of picking children up early if they want to

and children that want to can watch the match at school if they want.

having the OPTION seems reasonable, just CLOSING the school regardless is not.

Ixia · 22/06/2010 20:23

Not going early here, but DD has to go to school in football team colours or some such at less than 24hrs notice. Wouldn't mind but it's a Manx school, so it's not even as if England is their national team.

MrsC2010 · 22/06/2010 20:25

I'm going to start campaigning for time off to watch ...(desperately racks brains to think of a sport I like watching on TV) rugby, or tennis, or sailing. Anything but football would do. Yawwwwnnnn.
