who told me it was "chavvy" for DD (11) to get her ears pierced before she goes to senior school?

I'm not overly keen on her getting it done tbh but it seems to be a rite of passage for girls of this age. I also pick my battles and this seems pretty minor really.

I'm just aghast that in this enlightened age my friend would be so narrow-minded. I replied that I certainly wouldn't use that term to describe it and left it at that, but it's been on my mind all day and would like some reassurance that she was BU.

She has a different opinion to yours.

Lets just settle this once and for all; anything I do is right and proper. Anything you do that is not exactly what I do is either pretentious or chavvy depending on whether or not I would secretly like to do it.

But, that being said, it seems that that little nugget is a great mantra.

I dont think 11 is chavvy - I really think if a girl is old enough to be responsible and care for the healing wound herself and it was her idea then it is just a rite of passage. I'm not talking about several piercings going right up the ear, just a basic set of holes with studs for school.

Some of the poo that she will buy at Clares accessories and wear in the holes on the weekend, however, will indeed be chavvy.

DD had her ears pierced when she was 9 and we're not "chavvy", we don't say 'serviette' or 'settee' . Your friend is definitely BU.

11 months would be chavvy (unless its a cultural thing). Nothing wrong with 11 years.

11 years seems fine to me, it's what we are aiming for.

I don't have a problem with 11 - I was ten when I had mine done. Since then I can't say I've broken out into the stereotypical giant hoopla earrings - I stuck to silver studs and elegant dangly things for special occasions.

It's only 'chavvy' if you wear 'chavvy' earrings, and that itself is a very subjective area.

Out of interest, does your friend have a daughter herself? Or is she remembering things from her own past? Perhaps that was how her mum avoided looking like the wicked witch of the west when she was younger and wanted her own ears pierced.

I was 11 too had it done as a preesie from my nan for my 11th birthday.

I don't think it's chavvy and sgree its a subjective view on what earrings are and aren't chavvy.

DF DDs have just recently had theres done at 4 and 6. She wanted to wait but oldest kept going on (and on and on!!) and she really couldn't come up with an argument for waiting other than she did!! Like someone said pick your battles and she really felt she didn't want this argument for 5 years with the oldest and 7 with the youngest.

They look lovely by the way!!! They just have plain gold studs.

I was 10 and there was no such thing as a chav then! ear piercing isn't chavvy (unless it was 11 months not 11 years as Detective says!).
