To make dd pay for her own school trip?

dd has just asked for money to go to Drayton Manor Park with the school. Normally I would but its her birthday next week and we are shelling out for a few other things as follows:
charm for pandora bracelet £25
trip to london £400
3 tickets to see eclipse with friends £30
trip to holland with school £320

So another £30 just seems impossible. She has offered to pay for herself out of her earnings, shes just started a paper round 6 days a week.
But AIBU to not pay for her and making her use her own money?

YANBU - it's not like she is generally deprived is it !

How old is she? If she's a teenager, as looks like from your OP, then no, YANBU. What you are doing is teaching her about the value of money. You can't have everything handed to you on a plate, but you can work for it.

I think she'd get quite a kick out of knowing that she earned the money to pay for her trip - how grown-up of her. And you can present it to her that way too, I guess.

It's good you are letting her go and not saying no. Let her pay you back. And great that (it sounds like) she suggested it - she sounds v responsible - how long will it take her to earn the money?

She already has enough saved, she just keeps it all in a jar in the kitchen.

(Adair hotel alone is costing £200 for 2 nights, plus travel there and back and in and around london, food, tower of london, jack the ripper tour, etc etc)

I have no problem with her going, I think she'll love being at a theme park with her mates. I just dont want to shell out another £30 plus spending for another trip

Mosschops, I think you have clearly raised a responsible daughter who appreciates the lovely things she has and therefore understands the value of money (I hope my daughter will be the same as a teen). Definitely let her pay - agree she will feel grown-up that she paid. Maybe give her a fiver spending money for the day as a surprise.

Moss you are absolutely right in making her pay.

DD is 15 and is going to Berlin in Feb (£500) and went skiing with the school last year (best part of a grand). She is also going gliding which is only £80, but still.

She has got a school trip to Alton Towers - I told her she can pay it herself from her allowance (which she earns by doing chores) as muggins is forking out no more for a loooong time.

She was fine with this by the way, she realises that she has the life of riley in many respects.

lol adair agree would me much cheaper if we lived there, but maybe slightly less exciting shes never been before and cant wait to see pineapple dance studios

I think thats a good plan, she can pay for her trip and I'll give her some spending money to take with her

YANBU, and she'll probably enjoy the day all the more knowing that she's paid for it herself!

DD moaned because I refused to let her go to a gig in Gloucester a couple of weeks ago - it was all huffer puffing and acting as if I was the worst mother in teh world.

I had a sneaky conversation with her friends to find out who of them get to go on all teh bloody trips going - none of them. her best friend said that all her mates think dd is really lucky because her mum says yes to all teh school trips.

COMPLETELY at odds with dd's little match girl act.

YANB at all U. If you wanted to and she doesn't have enough money, you could always pay for it as a loan and then ask her to give you back a certain amount each week from her earnings..........
