To Do What I Want For My Birthday?

I was going to organise a party at home. That fell through as several people couldn't make an evening do because of their kids. Now they're asking what I'm going to do for my birthday I feel pressured into doing something that will accommodate them. I'd like to go for a meal, but it would have to be a lunch because of the kids. I'd like to go somewhere special for my birthday, but then I'm imposing a price tag that they may not be able to afford. Why is having fun so bloody complicated?! Any constructive advice please as I'm close to telling everyone to sod off and celebrating my birthday on my own.

Do what you want and if they can't come then so be it. How many people are you inviting anyway?

Mowgli1970 · 19/06/2010 09:45

It's not so much how many, it's the fact that it's close friends who have the kids that's causing the dilemma. I want them there, but it would have to be a daytime event that included kids.

Why dont you all have a birthday picnic or bbq

ZacharyQuack · 19/06/2010 09:48

Could you have a late-afternoon BBQ or pot-luck dinner at yours? (or convince a lovely friend to host?)

Everyone brings food and booze, and kids run around and eat too many crisps.

That's just it - I don't want a picnic or bbq. I suppose what I'm saying is other people should be willing to do what I want for one day of the year. AIBU?

I just go for lunch with my dh and kids

no YANBU, its your day, do what you want to do...

You can do what you want to do, but you can't expect everyone else to want/be able to do it to, birthday or not.
