AIBU?

to think that dogs should be outlawed in towns (and yes I know AIBU but I'm cross)

Once again today there is copious quantities of dog shit on my street. A nice wet squidgy one just at the part of the pavement which is half taken up by a tree so you can't really avoid it. My DS scooted straight through it

If there isn't anywhere to exercise them other than up and down the street and of course they are bound to want a poo, then AIBU to think they should be banned?

I know there are responsible dog owners in cities. But round here, they either seem to let their dogs shit willy nilly and don't clear it up or if they do, they leave their neatly tied bags next to the trees on the pavement. It's revolting.

I am sick to death of having to weave down the street to avoid the steaming piles (or the skids where someone else has been unfortunate enough to step in one.

Grrrrr

Years ago when I was at school someone left a knife and fork at the sides of a particularly large offering. YANBU. I have a dog and regularly get dog poo on my shoes from stuff other people have not cleaned up. If he goes off into the woods to poo, I confess I do not tramp after him to find it, but on a path or pavement it is just revolting to leave it. And as to putting it in a bag and then leaving it. wtf? Why do people do that? It is of course an offence - can you not contact your council?

You know they used to say you should rub a puupies nose in the shit to stop them doing it? Well I think it would make much more sense to rub the owners nose in it on the pavement. Dirty fuckers...if you don't clean up after your dog I'd make you eat it.

The council have put signs on the trees, dog poo bins at either end of the street and even inset special paving stones with a picture of a dog doing a poo with a big red cross through it. And we still get it everywhere. I think our street is a handy 'round the block' wall in all directions and that's the problem. And lots of flats without gardens. There isn't even any effort to move the dog to the side of the pavement or away from people's doors - I can't tell you the number of times there has been a big pile right in front of our gate

the only way to stop would be to hire wardens, cant see councils doing that atm.

YANBU at all - assuming working dogs (hearing dogs for the deaf and guide dogs for the blind etc) are not included in your ban.

Dog poo is disgusting and I cannot believe there are so many people who still think it's fine to leave their dog's mess sitting on the pavement.

I once leapt out of my front door to berate a guy who was letting his dog crap at my gate. His defence was that the dog's owner had died (I did used to see doddery man and doddery dog) and he was taking dog for one last walk before taking it to the vet to be put to sleep. Still- no reason not to pick up the shit.

Oh yes, hearing/seeing dogs definitely excluded. I have considered going out really early in the morning and sitting in the car so I can shout at the offenders.

they shouldn't be banned but owners who don't pick up dogshit should be shot heavily sanctioned.

YABU, but you know you are and I completely agree with the sentiment r.e.: inconsiderate dog owners and poo. My DH has been known to pick up other people's inconsiderate offerings when he's out and about as it hacks him off so much. (We have dogs so we always have poo bags on us...he's not 'just' weird!)

YANBU - I think the ban should extend to cat owners as well - I am sick of having someone else's fleabag sh*t on my front door mat.

Oh yes!! What about cats? My next door neighbour's one will only go in our garden and digs up all of DH's carefully tended veggies. Now if that isn't anti-social I don't know what is! At least our dogs primarily go in our garden and only go elsewhere if desperation/nature calls.

It's vile. I've witnessed someone let a dog shit outside on a pavement in front of their neighbour's gate and walk off. I then watched as pissed off neighbour came out, scooped up dog shit and posted it through owner's letter box!

I'm glad there are people in the world who are brave enough to do such a thing!

This is one of my absolute hates. I seriously think we should re-introduce dog licencing in order to pay for more wardens. £20 a year per dog sounds reasonable to me. Round where I live the problem seemed to go way for a few years, and now every bloody teenager seems to have a dog and is always "looking the other way" when the mutt takes a dump. I do see responsible owners picking up poop, but too many don't seem to care.

Are you sure those dogs are actually walked or are they just let out to do their business?
We live on a very quiet estate with lots of green spaces and the owners here just let their dogs out, don't even bother to walk them
Can't do anything as it's a private road and not controlled by the council, all house owners are responsible for the road outside their homes.

Happens all the time in my road too! My 2 year old daughter trod in some this week, I of course never noticed, put her in her carseat and she wiped it all down the back of my chair. I was wretching clearing it up.

Makes me so that I could quite easily punch the selfish knob of a dog owner!

Well I am a responsible dog owner who does pick up after my dog. These lazy owners do give others a bad name. However, to ban dogs from cities that is a bit strong. At least it is biodegradable, it teaches the first lesson in life, watch where you walk

There must be a way to fix this though as I live in a city and have often thought how little dog shit there is compared to when I was younger, but I can't put my finger on what they are doing right. I guess people feel less shame about leaving poo if there is a fair amount there already but would pick up if theirs was the only one. So a big street clean might have more than immediate effects.

I don't really think wardens are the way to go, they would mainly be in parks and here the other dog owners do a good enough job of self policing, plenty of times I have seen someone running towards the guilty party brandishing a poo bag saying something along the lines of: "don't worry I have a spare bag you can have, we all get caught out sometimes." On the streets they could give the responsibility to the traffic wardens as they parole around and get to know the local dogs and owners.
