Hi people i know this is probably not a AIBU topic its just im a regular here and its where i get my quickest replys usually and need to know quick as if he is going he needs to be there at 12.

So for a few days now both me and ds have come down with a dreaded summer cold
But last night ds woke him self up coughing and i went in to console him and give him and drink and back to sleep he went.
A couple of hours later he wakes again comes crying into my bedroom and its coughing uncontrollably and then is sick (all over my bloody quilt, so had to change the sheets at 3am
I dont think it was an ill sick if you get what i mean i think it was the coughing and probley fhlem that caused the sick any way, he has another drink and went back to bed.
Hear nothing till this morning and was thinking off keeping him off nursary but he says hes fine and the coughs have gone.

So not sure what to do???
Should he go to nursray or stay at home today

Sorry about the essay

I'd keep him at home just incase it got passed on, other parents won't thank you for it!

Hai1988 · 17/06/2010 11:17

But surely i cant keep him off for every cold he gets ?

Why ask then?

AvadaKedavra · 17/06/2010 11:19

I'd keep him off as he was sick. You don't yet know if it was just the coughing or something else and am sure your nursery will have an exlcusion period for sickness of whatever reason.

ErnestTheBavarian · 17/06/2010 11:21

but it's not normal the be sick when you have a cold, is it? I don't think mine have ever been sick with a cold. They've either been or nearly been sick with other bugs or v. bad cough, but if your ds has such a bad cough he's thrown up he shouldn't go in imo.

being sick for me = no nursery.

He doesn't need to stay off every time he has a cold, but this is different imo

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 17/06/2010 11:27

You should keep him off as he's been sick.

Hai1988 · 17/06/2010 11:29

life i just said that cause i thought roo meant that the other parents wouldnt thank me for taking him to school with a cold.

Thanks i think ur right i dont know its not somthing else that made him sick, plus i really dont want to take him the 20min to school just to go and collect him 1/2 hour later if they wanna send him home.

BTW what does imo mean??

in my opinion.

MumNWLondon · 17/06/2010 11:33

If he is sick shouldn't go to nursery for 24 hours. If its just a cold fine to go. But if he seems totally fine and he's often sick when he coughs then send him.

Hai1988 · 17/06/2010 11:40

MumNW dont confused me lol

BuzzingNoise · 17/06/2010 11:42

I thought it was 48 hours after being sick.

RooBear · 17/06/2010 11:46

no sorry hai I meant if he had a virus or something because he was sick

Hai1988 · 17/06/2010 11:54

oh rite, i've decided not to take him today, hes happy watching a bit of cebeebes at the mo dont no how happy he is gonna be when he realises that hes not going to nursery tho

My little boy is often sick when coughing. I have discussed this with nursery and they will take him if it is just from this.
However i never try to take the mick and do keep him off if i am not 100% sure it is just a gag/sick type thing rather than a sicky bug and obvioulsy also dont send him if cold is bad enough to make him feel unwell.

I would say ask the nursery what they think in case it happens again.
