I'll leave it at that, apart from the cost and swapping and thievery.

nah......its one of the rites of passage of childhood to have a half empty sticker book lying round for months til you don't give a toss about it

DaftApeth · 15/06/2010 09:06

Then someone very kindly buys some cards or stickers..... and they are the wrong ones.

So ds has to collect those one too!!

Touch wood, don't have so many problems with swapping and 'thievery' anymore.

Slovenlymummy · 15/06/2010 09:28

Not to mention DH getting all sulky because DS doesn't put the stickers in neatly enough! Think DH needs his own book to re-live his childhood so he can leaves DS's alone!

PansAndNoodles · 15/06/2010 09:37

Oh boy I won't get caught like this again

Picked up the (free) book for ds - didn't think it through, idiot that I am. Thankfully even he seems to be losing interest.

I worked out it'd cost something like 70 quid to fill it up and that's without taking into account that you probably won't get the stickers you need every time you buy some, so it's probably more like twice that amount in reality.

And yes! He's already had some other type of stickers from well meaning grandma, which turn out not to be for the book but for a huge poster I think.

Never never again!

"D"H even opened the packets for DS, "Because he couldn't resist it"

I got so sick of loose stickers lying around, that I settled down and stuck them all in yesterday. DS gets home from school and says "Mummy you are too kind...I WANTED TO DO THEM MYSELF" So why had they been lying around unstuck for 3 days then?

ABitBatty · 15/06/2010 09:41

My DP has the book and I used to buy him stickers when I went shopping, but he keeps getting duplicates now so I have given up!
The kids don't give a shiny shite about it but I send them to school with dp's swaps

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/06/2010 09:49

Well, DD is 9.1 and owns the book (she got it herself from her pocket money). I've never bought her a packet of stickers, yet, she has around 20 that she's swapped . I don't even want to know how that started. I was talking to a mum at school last week, she has spent 700 swiss francs on stickers for her son and his book got swiped. She shrugged and said they'd have to start again. I want her life.

Awww,it's only every 4 years,not too much of a hassle,eh?

My ds is obsessed with his World Cup sticker book.
He has AS & it totally taps into the things he loves;countries, flags, stats, etc!
In fact, today is his birthday & along with his iTouch all he wanted was stickers from GP,Aunties, friends, etc!
He has a pile you would not believe ready for him when he gets home from school!

Last world cup he managed to fill his sticker book with lots of help from family & friends.
We were all quite poor by the end & the amount of "doublers" he had could probably have filled 20 more books but,the sense of achievment was immense & I hate football!

Anyway, next world cup he'll be 16 so,I don't reckon after this tournement we'll have to deal with all the annoying discarded peel-off backs ever again!

cluckyduck · 15/06/2010 10:01

We have one.... for my DH

He has a wallchart too.

Can I recommend swapstick.com for converting your doubles into stickers that you need.

It's not a shiny commercial website and takes sometime to type in your details but we've been able to convert as many doubles as we've had into what we needed, saving us a fortune. So far all the swappers I've encountered have been genuine.

Dh brought home books for both of our dc and I initially thought it was a nice idea but lately I'm not so keen. Although we have spent quite a few pennies on it the amount they have learned about other continents, nations, flags etc is impressive. We spent a wet Sunday afternoon making flags for all sorts of nations and talking about the different countries, looking them up on the globe etc.

Zondra · 15/06/2010 10:16

Just looked up swapstick.com.
My DS is going to love that site, thanks for the tip!

sitdownpleasegeorge · 15/06/2010 13:44

Can't take the credit for finding it myself, another MN'er gave me the website info.

Oblomov · 15/06/2010 13:51

I agree. I did not think this through, for ds1(6). costs a fortune. what a mistake.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/06/2010 11:35

Site looks fantastic, but I don't think we can use it because we are in Switzerland. I'll look around to see if there is anything local I can use.
