to wear a bikini with a baby bump

Just wondering what was acceptable?

Am going on a beach holiday soon and wondered whether I would offend by wearing a bikini?

I have a maternity one-piece too, just wondered what the etiquette was?

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. If other people are offended by seeing a baby bump then that's their tough shit.

Enjoy your holiday.

whooosh · 14/06/2010 01:45

Completely acceptable providing you would wear a bikini when not pg

IsGraceAvailable · 14/06/2010 01:58

yanbu! Bloody hell, any ill-mannered twerps you may encounter were bumps themselves, once!

mathanxiety · 14/06/2010 02:06

YANBU -- they're all over the place in my neck of the woods. Wish they had been acceptable in my time.

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 14/06/2010 03:44

YANBU. Enjoy your holiday! Just remember a hat and sunscreen esp on your face as the sun effects you more when pregnant and can cause pigmentation.

Athrawes · 14/06/2010 04:19

My friend and I, both 36 weeks, gloriously parade our enormous and thankfully stretchmark free (rosehip oil) in two pieces at the pool. Water on bump so much nicer than a one piece - which I find makes me look like an inflatable beach toy.

ginhag · 14/06/2010 07:07

Why on earth would that be unreasonable???

Of course YANBU.

gobsmackedetal · 14/06/2010 07:21

you reminded me of an old lady in hyde park a couple of years ago, who came up to me as I was sunbathing my bump and tried to convience me that my baby would get skin cancer. She carried on to say how the sun could make him blind!!!!!

Thankfully both he and I survived the 15 minutes of english sun without any painful consequences

NoSexInOurCity · 14/06/2010 07:31

When you think of all the frightful things you might see on the beach - peeling lobster skin, crispy bacon ears and lips, leather handbag cleavages, slightly-too-small speedos. A baby bump doesn't really register does it? Have a lovely (last child-free, assuming it's your first) holiday

Harimo · 14/06/2010 07:40

Ooh... I think baby bumps look gorgeous! just as long as you are past the 'pregnant or too much pasta for dinner' phase

Enjoy!!

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 14/06/2010 07:46

Yanbu. Bikinis and bumps look great!

whoneedssleepanyway · 14/06/2010 07:49

YANBU i did...enjoy your holiday.

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/06/2010 07:53

I did too... Be careful though - I burned my bump slightly!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 14/06/2010 07:55

You'll be one of few women on the beach not holding their tummies in! I sat on the beach (in the shade to be fair, am as pale as can be) in a bikin when pregnant.

wastingaway · 14/06/2010 07:58

Don't get your bump too tanned if you're nearly term though as the deflated skin will look nearly black all crinkled up after you've had the baby. I was born in the August and Mum has warned me of this several times.

Have a lovely holiday.

AnyFucker · 14/06/2010 08:17

I am just back from sunny hols and there were lots of big bumps on show in bikinis

it looks nice, I think

The only thing that did draw some stares was the lady who looked about 8 months pg with a very dark linea nigra, enormously enlarged breasts with areoles that looked like brown dinnerplates and nipples like builder's elbows

It might be my own discomfort, but that just seemed a bit inappropriate to me...

porcamiseria · 14/06/2010 09:16

wear a bikini and tan that bump. who on earth would be offended, unless you planning a holiday in Riyadh?

AnyFucker · 14/06/2010 11:15

oh, I meant that she was topless...not that I was looking down her top {grin]

anyabanya · 14/06/2010 11:21

Yes, where it with pride. Jealous here as I would love to be able to wear a bikini at any stage!

I think you would look beautiful.

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 14/06/2010 14:31

pmsl @ builder's elbows and AF, the nork inspector.

AnyFucker · 14/06/2010 14:32
Grin
porcamiseria · 14/06/2010 14:33

ewwwww Anyfucker

nah that would gross me too

I hate my pregnancy norks, even wore a bra one day to keep them stable

but brown tummies, fine by me!

paisleyleaf · 14/06/2010 14:34

Having a bonafide bump would be the only time I could wear a bikini.
