Lakeland have something even more disturbing better here

mrsincommunicado · 13/06/2010 17:00

lmao Jamie, I couldn't eat that, the chicken looks like a headless baby.

They sell the bricks in Ikea, they do make a yummy baked chicken.

MrsI goes off to search for the olive stoner....

anyabanya · 13/06/2010 17:01

well, i'd offer you ours ladysybil, but we need it for storing paperclips and rubber bands.

although i read your link and I did not realise they could be so - well - useful.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 17:03

The chicken stand reminds me of "Withnail and I" ......

I did buy a teabag bin in Lakeland. Not my finest moment

mrsincommunicado · 13/06/2010 17:05

well if we are admitting our guilty lakeland secrets I do have an amazing pair of tongs which DH nagged me to buy after Jamie spluttering Oliver had a pair.

I always look at the website, fill up a virtual basket and then cancel it all at the end

ProfYaffle · 13/06/2010 17:06

They're huge, I bought one for my Dad one Xmas and every time I visit and see the terracotta behemoth squatting in their tiny kitchen, occupying 70% of the available cupboard space, I feel terribly guilty.

Vallhala · 13/06/2010 17:09

Oh fuck! Why did I click on that link? I'm a vegetarian!

diddl · 13/06/2010 17:10

The chickens don´t look at all appetizing imo.

qwertpoiuy · 13/06/2010 17:23

I want one too. You'd probably need a huge oven for it though!

ScentedLovePuff · 13/06/2010 17:27

I have an aluminium roaster, a bit like this which kinda does the job of a chicken brick but you can use it for allsorts of other things to (I bake brownies in the lid......) and doesnt take up as much space (or look quite so much like a giant terracotta turd......)

Love the dancing chicken roaster though!

mrsincommunicado · 13/06/2010 17:29

That't the one i have scented, keeps all the juice in, slice onions and pots and layer them in the bottom and they are irresistable once the chicken juice has soaked in.

They are also called Dutch Ovens

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 17:30

ooooo lakeland. i love lakeland. tyou are evil woman, redirecting me back to that site.

I wanna see the rude in laws thread - which is it?

ScentedLovePuff · 13/06/2010 17:33

They are great aren't they mrs? I love just being able to bung it all in there and leave it, means me and my DD can have a yummy roast even though its just the two of us and I don't have a huge amount of time for cooking! Roasting whole fish in there comes out well too.

Word of warning, wash the lid well after roasting chicken before making brownies.....

biddyofsuburbia · 13/06/2010 17:35

Hooray ladysybil for starting this thread! You don't need a chicken brick unless you've got a stupidly large kitchen and can't fill up your cupboards! I never use it but I have to say on the three evenings in five years I have, it does deliver a moist chicken!

Recently purchased:
'Stoneware' baking tray - allegedly amazing but all the scrubbing with the little plastic thing to clean it without detergent - life is too short - what on earth is that all about?

Apple wedger - brilliant, dd will eat the whole apple not just take two little bites and discard. Totally unnecessary as a knife does the job, but I am a bit sad and love the way you've got apple wedges in one fell swoop!

Resolution: not to buy anything else which can't go in the dishwasher. or a fish platter.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 17:42

I am the only one who thinks Dutch Oven has rude connotations ? ....

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 17:42

biddy, is that the stoneware from pampered chef? they are brilliant. i love mine, but i just use detergent on it as cant bear to not. its just too greasy otherwise. and its survived being int he dishwasher, so dont stress too much about the plastic thing. ours is long since lost.

my kitchen is not big. in fact, my fridge cannot be in the kitchen coz the dinin table is where it could have gone, had there been an electric socket there for it. dh keeps promising me a new kithcen, but nine years later, still not got one.
i still want the chicken brick. and i have been drooling over some oven mitts in lakeland now too.

Yes

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 17:43

the rude in laws trhead is in aibu and active atm

OP posts:
anyabanya · 13/06/2010 17:58

the rude inlaws thread has 'poor relation' in the title.

It is not immediately obvious how we came to chicken bricks.

biddyofsuburbia · 13/06/2010 17:59

Yes, it is pampered chef! And it sounded great. My mate hosted and is religious about maintaining hers (apparently they are supposed to get a bit of fat on to 'season' them??!) Anyway, great to hear that yours has had detergent on and is fine, might get mine out again! Just out of interest what do you think it's best for?!

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 18:09

i use it for everything and anything (chicken nggets, chips,, wedges, roasting almonds, roasting veg). except frozen pizza which goes straight onto the rack.
i also have the circular one with the sides, which gets used for roast cchicken, but once i have a bigger kitchen, i will get my chicken brick desserts of all descriptions. um, anything and everything i guess is answer. ooo, brownies too.

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 13/06/2010 18:10

I was given a chicken brick and when I used it to roast a bird the chicken was quite soggy so have never used it again (we all like cripsy chicken skin).

Am I missing something?

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 18:11

mrsi, i have followed your advice, and deleted the basket from lakeland. not least coz i have no room in my kitchen, garage understairs etc.
anya, you are blessed. you have a chicken brick.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 13/06/2010 18:11

You cannot have one because the name is too ridiculous. You can have an olive stoner instead
