yes please. i desperately need one of those too. dd loves olives. see, it will come in useful, even if it means i have to switch to buying olives with stones in, instead of not.

I am blessed!

That seriously cheered me up, thanks!

AlCrowley · 13/06/2010 18:20

I have a chicken brick. It lives in the pans drawer cause I never use it.

Much better way to get a moist chicken is to stuff a whole lemon, which has been microwaved for 30 seconds and then stabbed a few times with a knife, inside the chicken prior to roasting it. You can also add a few whole garlic cloves and some herbs. The lemon steams inside the chicken and makes the meat very moist while allowing you the crispy skin.

T'is delicious

PS. I tried out my new cherry chomper today. DS and I love cherries but I always worry about the stones (he's only just 3) and I hate spending hours cutting them out so I just avoid eating them. The chomper is so simple, even DS can use it and it goes in the dishwasher too!!

AlCrowley · 13/06/2010 18:21

Oh - and used this for the first time too. It was my birthday not long ago so I have a load of new gadgets to try

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 18:27

that website is wonderful. and i a want them both too. lol, seem to be on a bit of a shopping spree at the moment, (not that i a m actually buying hem, just wanting them.)

Yeah you really shouldn't use washing up liquid on the stoneware. They aren't supposed to look nice they are supposed to season. Mine look manky as hell but they are clean.

Pampered Chef do a deep covered baker which does the same thing as the chicken brick pretty much and you can do loads of other stuff in it.

Can you tell I am a consultant?

ladysybil · 13/06/2010 18:39

nikki, i love the pampered chef stoneware, but honestyly, the detergent hasnt done harmed my stones at all, andive been using them for five years.
i want a chicken brick. one that is called a chicken brick. i want it for its nobby qualities too riven, the pampered chef covered thing isnt called a chicken brick, is it? therefore i dont want it, i want the naff named product.
right, must stop being so silly on here, and go mother my kids, instead of ignoring them as i have done all afternoon whilst mumnsetting

This is why I love MN.

I would never have heard of a chicken brick otherwise

I would like one, but am crap at washing stuff like that up. It would be disgusting within a few weeks

paisleyleaf · 13/06/2010 18:57

I've got a chicken brick - I just didn't know until now what it's called.
It was £1.50 at a boot sale, never been used, in it's box with instructions (it's still never been used).
Mines not very big though - it's like this one

I'm not sure how I feel about those ones with the sticky-uppy bit for a standing up chicken.

Tn0g · 13/06/2010 19:09

Oh, I bought a chicken brick from Habitat many moons ago.

Complete design classic.

I'm veggie too so have never actually cooked a chicken in it, I just have it on a shelf next to other gadjetry and aesthetically pleasing items.

< complete loon alert >

AlCrowley · 13/06/2010 19:48

Ours is from Habitat too Tn0g! We got vouchers as a wedding present and I was desperately trying to find something to buy that cost just the right amount...

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 13/06/2010 20:13

Ooh Nicky I'm a consultant too! I have every stone available and love them all. I love the idea of huge Yorkshire puds with one ninth of the calories of a normal one! I made them and they are bloody gorgeous!
I also have a chicken brick like the one shown on river cottage. It is bloody marvellous. The chicken is always crispy and really moist. You can also use it for other meats, casseroles and soups. It's not that big either. It is just big enough to cram in an extra large chicken.

expatinscotland · 13/06/2010 20:18

i want a tagine. i have no idea why.

Tn0g · 13/06/2010 20:54

heehee

I bought a tagine in Tkmaxx, exy.

Not to cook lamb and couscous in, but because I liked the colour and the shape.

It sits on the shelf next to the chick brick.

I had an artichoke on the kitchen table for weeks and wouldn't/couldn't cook it, found it too pleasing to the eye.

[!]

expatinscotland · 13/06/2010 20:57

Oooo, TnOg, we'd get along like a house on fire!

Tn0g · 13/06/2010 20:58

I knew you were a kindred loon spirit

Greensleeves · 13/06/2010 21:00

I want a chicken brick

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 13/06/2010 21:12

greenie I don't drop hints any more. I order what I want for my birthday, then tell him what he Is getting me!

expatinscotland · 13/06/2010 21:25

I want some lidded soup bowls, too. I found one in a charity shop. It's one of those brown and cream vintage ones and ever since then I've been hunting for more.

moondog · 13/06/2010 21:33

Ooh, I've got a tagine.

But pride and joy is bloody enormous 15kg (at least) juicer I brought home from Middle East.

Mechanical-none of yer daft electric nonsense.
Am also proud owner of greek coffee pan-v nice on rare ocasion i use.

ScentedLovePuff · 13/06/2010 21:39

Ew Riven, I wouldn't want to eat roasted nob!

expatinscotland · 13/06/2010 21:45

I got a proper vintage juicer for £2 in Oxfam.

Also love my sundae glasses.
