To not particularly like cake?

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 00:47

I mentioned this today and was met with looks of horror!

To my mind, it's too sweet, it sticks to the roof of your mouth and just doesn't taste that good.

Now, give me a lump of cheese, and I'm anyones, but chocolate? - Meh

I just don't get the sweet tooth thing.

Anybody else?, or AIBU

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 10/06/2010 00:50

No. I don't like it particularly either.

YABVVVVVU not to like chocolate, however.

bluecheesefiend · 10/06/2010 00:53

YANBU - I used to love all things savory and was always a bit fussy about all things sweet. Then got pregnant and my tastebuds betrayed me - am currently consuming more sugar per day than willy wonka. Can't wait to have the baby and feast on cured meats and stinky cheeses once more!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 00:53

Just the two of us then...

I don't dislike chocolate, it's more a take it or leave it thing.

Hell yeah !!!

Cake is the food of gods.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 00:55

Ooh, bluecheese - are you having a girl by any chance?

When I was pregnant with dd I used to eat cadbury giant buttons by the bag - the only time I have ever wanted sweet things.

OP posts:
Clary · 10/06/2010 00:56

I love sweet stuff myself but YANBU at all not to.

Iknow a lot of people (more often menm but still...) with a savoury tooth.

A pal of DS2's claims to be allergic to cake but really he just isn't keen.

toccatanfudge · 10/06/2010 00:58

well it's got to be a nice cake - otherwise I do agree with you.

KristinaM · 10/06/2010 01:00

i dont like cake. or sweets. only chocolate

it must be genetic as i have a 4yo who doesnt like sweets either.

if you offer him a sweet he will put it in his mouth then take it out and hand it back to you saying " i don't like these"

the phrase " no thank you" is not in his vocabulary

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 01:04

Clary - it was the sheer horror though - as if I had casually mentioned I like clubbing at the weekend, then revealed it was actually seal clubbing!

(To those on here I made the original comment to, I'm not actually offended, just interested if I am missing some vital female hormone or somethig {smile])

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 01:09

Oh, and Cheese, Ambrosia is food of the Gods, and I think you'll find they mainly do custard

OP posts:
kickassangel · 10/06/2010 01:25

bitter - you are kind of missing some vital female hormone. as a general rule, women have sweeter tastes than men.

also, i have heard research (but not def proved) that women expecting boys have more of a taste for salty foods, and women expecting girls like sweeter stuff than normal.

there does seem to a be a broad male/female split on this.

however, as people age their taste buds change & crave sweet stuff less. (kids crave it, as back in the cave, they needed really sweet stuff to survive). perhaps you're just old

BertieBotts · 10/06/2010 01:54

Nope I am not that bothered by cake either. Never been bothered by chocolate, except during pregnancy, and it has carried on, but I've had it suggested this may be because I am still breastfeeding. We will wait and see!

I much prefer savoury snacks. Posh crisps and Indian snacks like onion bhajis, pakoras etc are my favourite at the moment. Although on the chocolate front I have just discovered the Galaxy cookie crumble flavour - it's genius! Like home made chocolate cookies except it's chocolate with little bits of cookie in rather than cookies with chocolate chips.

I am, however, allergic to cheese. When I say this in conjunction with my apathy towards cake and chocolate people are usually most offended

I especially dislike things with butter icing and other overly sweet things, much to the bemusement of most of my friends. I think they are secretly a bit disappointed when they come for coffee at mine and are presented with a home made carrot cake or tea loaf

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 10:39

I may have found a hole in my argument - do jaffa cakes count as cake?

OP posts:
toccatanfudge · 10/06/2010 10:40

hmm...........I think that's a hotly debated point on MN

StealthPolarBear · 10/06/2010 10:43

i definitely had more of a sweet tooth when expecting DD than DS.
DS i craved salad, celery, water. With DD it was cake, sweets, still hasn't stopped unfortunately

minipie · 10/06/2010 10:46

I believe there was an entire legal case about whether jaffa cakes are cakes or biscuits. (seriously - something to do with VAT). can't remember the answer though.

Anyway, YANBU. I don't much like cake either, or most sweets or puddings.

I make exceptions for chocolate mousse and anything made mostly of cream, though.

I think the VAT outcome thing for Jaffa Cakes was that they were cakes - because biscuits go soft when they go stale, and cakes go hard.

But I could just be making that up

Oh, and OP - YABU! Cake is great. I'm not that bothered by chocolate though, either.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/06/2010 10:49

Minipie - that's jogged my memory.

I think it was settled as they are cake as they go hard when stale, and biscuits go soft.

Well, that's solved that then. Clearly IABU.

As you were, don't mind me.

OP posts:
Headbanger · 10/06/2010 10:50

YANBU, because you have never eaten any of mine. That'd learn yer.

OrmRenewed · 10/06/2010 10:55

Yes YABU. And a freak

Can I have yours?

williewalshsballs · 10/06/2010 11:02

Shock Shock Shock

JeezyPeeps · 10/06/2010 11:05

YANBU - but only because it means that there is more for the rest of us... drool
