Makes all our bleating on about breastfeeding v fomula, weaning dramas etc seem so trifling. I look at DD and cannot imagine how awful it must be for a mother to know her daughter is 50% likely to be raped.

Puts things into perspective for me.

YANBU. Good call!

I watched this last month when it was shown it was heartwrenching especially for the youngest one who was blamed by her neighbours because it had happened more than once to her.

Fibilou · 08/06/2010 17:44

It's really shocking. I knew that in some parts of rural africa even newborn baby girls are raped because men think it's a cure for HIV

It's a truly awful world we live in, we are so lucky when you consider what families in countries that aren't 1st world hav to go through.

You are so right to remind us about things like this and to stop worrying about whether or not we are doing things perfectly. We should aim to do things reasonably well and keep things in moderation. Striving to be so perfect is a modern illness I think. When we are reminded of how bad it is in some places it wakes us up to how unneccessary a lot of our almost self imposed worry is.

iwanttolearn · 08/06/2010 17:52

Yes, we are very lucky. I've been to Indonesia, Nepal and some other parts of Asia. Having to look at what other people go through and how bravely they cope with it is amazing and it makes me grateful for what I have.

DetectivePotato · 08/06/2010 20:17

That programme certainly made me appreciate living in this country!

Nemofish · 08/06/2010 20:25

I really do appreciate living in a country with a social safety net. As much as we may moan about our extensive benefits system, free education and free healthcare, bugger me if it isn't bloody brilliant.

BikiniBottom · 08/06/2010 20:31

Of course you are right, I do have to remind myself often how fortunate I am.

LittleMissHissyFit · 08/06/2010 20:50

I know how lucky I am to live here, I know how blessed this land is. Living 3 (long)years in DH country showed me that.

The UK rocks! Viva Freedom!

scottishmummy · 08/06/2010 20:55

fibilou link and yes a sobering reminder most of us dont have it so bad

darkandstormy · 08/06/2010 21:25

so not being unreasonable, it is so sad,and we are just so lucky it is untrue.
