story here

Just seen this story and wondered what everybody else thought really. other than this little article that wasn't even really proper news, more a column comment it just seems to have passed by in the press without being noticed or commented on.

Seems GB organised a pay cut from £194K to £150K for himself - a week before the election. Apparently according to a bbc interview on newsbeat he said he would be willing to do take a paycut back in middle of last year but only got around to doing it in the week before the election

Oh and he didn't bother to publicise it either so David Cameron didn't know about it until he got into office.

Politics aside, is it just me or is it an incredibly petty and mean thing to do that shows the man in an incredibly bad light?

I don't have a problem with the PM having a paycut and if GB had done it months ago I would have applauded him. But to do it a week before leaving office just leaves me .

Likewise I don't mind if the Prime Minister earns a decent wage, this isn't really about the actual amount that is being paid out. More the fact that he changed it when he did.

Yes I agree with you totally - it was a very mean and small-minded thing to do.

To be fair though, he didn't know for certain he'd be going. At least it'll save Dave a job when it comes to slashing public spending.

This has been done, got really boring

zipzap · 08/06/2010 19:35

sorry secunda I hadn't seen it anywhere (MN or newspapers until today)

Was it on AIBU or elsewhere? Had a quick look and couldn't find it.

Under Politics here

Thank you MM - much appreciated.

I'm really not into politics - didn't even realise that MN had a separate politics section .

Guess that's why I didn't see the story or the MN discussion earlier

I hadn't seen the previous thread, but did know of the politics section, hence was able to find it when secunda said that there had been another thread about it.
