To wish I had a Tazer?

...to zap the git on a bike who almost killed DC today?

We were crossing the road...
Press the button,
wait for Green Man,
look both ways,
cross together...

then this bike comes out of nowhere (it is a long, reasonable straight main road - you can clearly see about 50m up the road) - and I have never ever seen anyone move so fast on a bike. He swerved around DC (who was on my right, about half a step before me) and I actually felt the breeze as he went by.

Did he stop, look around, acknowledge this? No he did not. I did manage to bellow 'YOU STUPID, STUPID MAN' and by the time I had finished he was about 100m up the road.

Honestly, if he had hit DC, he would have been squished, if not killed.

Why can't we make cyclists follow the rules of the road? There should be a licence.

Then crossing road in front of school, at green man (2 lanes on each side, one closed off for roadworks), a woman on a bike hurtles along the closed lane and swerves around us (we were crossing at the green man and there was a bus in the open lane - so luckily I was peering around it). She had a helmet, high-viz jacket (so she obviously values her own life).

I am very bike-upfriendly today. I could quite happily poke my walking stick in ther bloody spokes.

So both cyclists jumped red lights! nuff said

TheCrackFox · 08/06/2010 10:20

Tazer away.

If they are giving out free Tazers can I start picking on people who spit? I really would like to inflict some pain on them.

wahwahwah · 08/06/2010 10:25

I am just so impressed that I didn't resort to really bad language (my grandpa was in the navy and had quite a few choice expressions).

Dc said 'you said a very naughty word mummy...'. bless, he thinks 'stupid' is naughty!

But seriously, if I had caught up with him... I kept eyeing the cyclists on the way to see if I couls spot him.

I had an idea for a Ap that turns your phone into a tazer... then I saw something similar on CIS Miami. Wish I'd patented it!!!

They give cyclists a bad name. Not all cyclists (I am one, as is dh) behave so foolishly.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/06/2010 10:29

YANBU, I have been hit by a bike once, and almost hit in same way as your DS once, felt the breeze on me, would have been badly hurt. This was at a zebra crossing. Now look very carefully both ways even at a green man here, and shouldn't have to!!

ShowOfHands · 08/06/2010 10:38

I've been knocked off my bike 3 times by idiot drivers. A friend's son is in hospital after a motorbike knocked him over on a zebra crossing.

It's just idiots isn't it. Idiots with any sort of vehicle. At least if you take their vehicles off them they're just walking themselves into lamposts.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/06/2010 10:40

ShowOfHands - yes, there are also lots of idiot drivers, our bus nearly hit a van yesterday because the guy was yakking on his phone and pulled out when bus was turning in front of him.

Not saying all cyclists are bad, far from it, but I can honestly say here (student city) that probably at least HALF of the cyclists I see pay no heed to red lights, its scary.

ShowOfHands · 08/06/2010 10:45

People on their phones annoy me. Idiots. The thing is, they know what they're doing.

An Idiot nearly reversed into us on the pavement the other day, though moving quite slowly thankfully (had to pick up and whisk dd out of the way). He was on his phone, got out, started shouting at us for 'just standing there' (I repeat, on the pavement). He was mid rant when dh whipped out his ID (dh is a copper) and he moved to 'oh god don't fine me, I'm already on x no of points and I need my car and blah'. So he knew, clearly knew, yet just felt the need to blame us.

I'll say it again.

Idiots.

wahwahwah · 08/06/2010 10:48

Not all cyclists are bad... but there are precious few who seem to have done their cycling proficiency test.

How often do you actually see one stop at a red light, use hand signals, use the cycle path (for some reasons, they prefer to cycle 2 feet over over the line on the pedestrian bit near us - and it is paved exactly the same!!!)...

yes, they really annoy me too, it's frustrating when you go past one and can't DO anything, it's then I am tempted to join the police!!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/06/2010 10:49

oh i meant people on phones annoy me there, not cyclists!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/06/2010 10:49

(that would have been slightly harsh!)

wahwahwah · 08/06/2010 10:55

Showodhands - I wish I had been there. His face when he saw the ID must have been a picture!!!

The sad thing is that the more in the wrong people are, the more agressive and nasty they get.

A little update...

on the way into school today I heard a lot of yelling. One guy on a bike was tearing shreds of another cyclist who had gone through the red light. 'You went through the red, you could have knocked someone over, you (not too naughty but quite descriptive words).' The bad cyclist swung off his bike and rounded on the good cyclist before thinking better of the punch I am sure he was considering.

Of course, I stood by the side of the road and clapped, then gave him the thumbs up. Everyone else went all English and pretended not to notice.

My hat off you you, Cycle-Activist!

Yabu - a tazer only has one shot and they are pretty inaccurate - go for a crossbow :-).

wahwahwah · 24/06/2010 15:08

I am a very good shot. I used to do archery...
