I know I am so come slap me and tell me to get a grip.

We are going on holiday with some friends but it will mean DS1 missing the last week of his pre-school.

This is the last time we will be able to go away in term time before he starts proper school, most of this friends are moving up with him but for some reason it has really upset me that he is missing all the fun and hurrahs of the last week. I must confess I did weep to DH who thought I'd gone mad.

He is 4, please remind me he is not in the 6th form.

I actually think I am more worried about me missing out on potential summer playdate arrangements.

You could make the first move with playdate arrangements - when one of my DDs friends left the nursery her mum made up little cards with her picture and contact details on it, saying that she knew that her DD would love to stay in touch - maybe something like that might help? Or organise a picnic for everyone for when you get back - if everyone brings there own food then all you really have to do is pick a day and a time and make sure that everyone knows about it.

I realised last summer that the problem about going away in term time is the summer holidays are ridiculously long!

I told the teacher this morning, she was distinctly unimpressed, especially that he would miss sports day.

I'm no good at this! If I worry now that I'm in trouble with the teacher what am I going to be like when he starts school for real!

hmmmm, one afternoon of sports day versus a week (or more) long holiday, know which one I would chose!

Think you do need to get a grip! your DS will probably not remember his last few days at preschool but is more likely to remember fun filled days on holiday

Dd missed her last week and a half of nursery last year because of scarlett fever.

She was obviously too ill to care at the time and has never really mentioned it since.

Don't worry about the teacher's attitude, you have every right, at this stage to miss nursery school - it is not a legal requirement to be there.

Have a lovely holiday. You'll look back on this in a few years time and laugh at your reaction

oh flip - I must be the worst mother in the world then because my son is missing the last 3 weeks of nursery and we're jumping for joy about it!

We're in the same boat and I am dead upset that DS will miss his little graduation and the pre-school summer party

He doesn't seem that bothered though - too excited about the waterslide on holiday. And I've asked a couple of the mums for their mobile numbers so will organise a few playdates when we come back.

I keep telling myself that he won't remember it and there'll be other end-of-term years that'll mean more to him in future.

Still, I know I'll be a bit sad on his last day this Friday.
