A problem with my neighbour.

I have got on with my neighbour in the past quite well, but recently, say for about 2-3 months, we have had problems with a leaking roof, where water is coming in through our daughters bedroom, we had a roofer look at it it and he said it was coming from next doors roof and ours was fine, i contacted my neighbour twice about it and even offered to pay half as i know she is on a low income, but she never replied, we,ve had to get enviromental health involved as our side is leaking terrible and god knows how much damage is being done, they are coming out thursday to put different coloured dye on both rooves to be 100% sure, of where its leaking from, my neighbour will then be served a notice because its classed as being a nuisance, the roof will then be repaired on her side and a notice wiil be put on her house, where if she sells the house, the council will be able to claim for the repairs and get their money back, i really don't like doing this but what does everyone else think, my partner, who owns our house is going round to my neighbour tonight to tell her what will be happening thursday.

YANBU in any way. I think you are being eminently reasonable offering to pay half. I wish you were my neighbour.

Doesn't sound like you have any other option.. and kind of you to offer to help out by paying half.

diamondsandtiaras · 07/06/2010 19:31

YANB at all unreasonable. If you have made her aware of the problem and even offered to pay half then you have every right to take it further.........and to be honest your neighbour must be expecting you to do so......surely she doesn't expect you to let it drop when there is water coming into your daughter's bedroom?

Well the guy from the council came out today and put down a bright red dye on her side this morning and hosed the roof, he spoke to my neighbour, and explained what he was doing, she was ok for him to carry on but really couldn't understand how it could be coming into ours, but the the council guy said our roof was water tight and didnt put dye on our side. He said she didnt seem happy about it, so we're waiting to see if it comes into our side now. If it doesn't, we are totally miffed as to where it is coming from, although the council guy did tell my neighbour her roof was in a bit of a state and her roof had failed. Wait and see.
