To have a favourite mug?

Which I love and think that tea in it tastes better than other mugs?

DH thinks I am a little bit loopy and always winds me up by making me tea in another mug, but I love my favourite one.

If it got broken I think my hear would break too

Ah, well I like it as piss. Can't be doing with fucking builders tea in my china cup. It would be just wrong.

I love my cup, I do.

theuninvitedguest · 06/06/2010 22:41

I have a fave mug, DH always makes my morning tea in it. In fact, when having kid #1, he made tea in it at home ("for the taste") then decanted it into a flask to bring me in hospital! Maybe my DH is as loony as me

suwoo · 06/06/2010 22:49

I too asked DH to bring my special mug into hospital after DS2's birth.

EcoLady · 06/06/2010 23:04

At work I have a specific mug for coffee and a different mug for tea. Yet at home I don't have a favorite at all.

chixinthestix · 06/06/2010 23:17

I had a favourite mug at work and left it in a kitchen drawer along with my teabags etc. When I got back after a week off the mug was gone and I found it later in a workshop, half full of white spirit with a paintbrush stuck in it. Now I take a flask...

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 06/06/2010 23:32

DH and I both have favourite mugs.
Last week he was working outside with the builder and I made them both a cup of tea. DH was shocked to find I had made his in a "builders' mug"
My theory was, at that moment in time he was a builder (well, assistant) so he had to drink from the appropiate ugly doesn't matter if it's smashed mug

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/06/2010 07:58

I did have a favourite mug but clumsy knickersdd knocked it over last week and broke it. It is the second time she has done this and I was ridiculously angry about it. I got both from the COOP nearby and they have run out. I have been to several other branches to no avail. I am currently using what I consider to be a sub standard approximation of favourite mug but live in hope tht somewhere in Switzerland I'll find another.

EveWasFramed10 · 07/06/2010 08:14

YADefNBU!! I have a fave mug for coffee, must be used daily. I also have a favourite tea mug...neither beverage tastes quite the same without the right cup!

MilkNoSugarPlease · 07/06/2010 08:16

Ooh hurley I have a stolen borrowed Starbucks mug too

It's perfect!

BigBadMummy · 07/06/2010 08:21

I am with you on this one, totally.

And whilst I can drink out of others, tea just doesn't taste the same.

I cannot, however, drink out of mugs that have a dark interior.

We have some with navy blue or brown interiors (such as the Snickers mug) but I just cannot drink from those.

I have never dared share that before for fear of ridicule at home . If somebody uses one of those when making me a mug I have to go and secretly decant it or "forget" the tea and let it go cold.

MamaVoo · 07/06/2010 08:29

I have a few favourites and actually have to stop and think in the morning about which mug I 'feel' like today. DH doesn't seem to have realised this and makes me tea in any old mug. I drink it, but it isn't the same.

PuppyMonkey · 07/06/2010 08:39

While we're talking mugs, I can't stand the mugs in Starbucks.. I only drink tea (coffee is yuk) and the tea tastes terrible in them. Anyone else have a prob with that?

bearcrumble · 07/06/2010 08:41

Oh my God - I was going to start this thread this morning! Seriously.

My mum came round and used my mug (British Museum, fine bone china with a Hokusai wave picture on the outside) yesterday and I was really annoyed. I didn't say anything though.

It is just the right size and it is so pretty.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 07/06/2010 08:47

The mugs in Starbucks are brilliant!

PuppyMonkey · 07/06/2010 08:51

Not for tea they're not!

MilkNoSugarPlease · 07/06/2010 08:54

They are!

Ok I have to sometimes use 2 teabags otherwise it's to weak, but thy're fab

pigsinmud · 07/06/2010 08:56

Dh and I have mugs for different times of the day. We have breakfast tea mugs and then later morning coffee mugs. After that it's a bit of a free for all.

I have to take a deep breath if my mum or mil has made us a drink in the wrong cup.

PuppyMonkey · 07/06/2010 08:57

Look, MNS, let's take this fight outside.

I have to ask for one of the smaller mugs cos they're slightly better, but still a bit yuk imho. Those massive ones are terrible though... the tea goes cold too quickly in them.

They don't use boiling water either, just those "hot water" tap things. So that doesn't help.

Fussy, moi?

MilkNoSugarPlease · 07/06/2010 09:07

I would take this outside but frankly I'm concerned as to what kind of animal a PuppyMonkey is

They're fab! I have 2 at home....that somehow made their way into my bag...ahem

boogeek · 07/06/2010 09:22

I broke my favourite tea-mug 2 years ago (bone china, thin rim) and cannot find a replacement. I have others that are adequate but not favourites. Then other mugs that are only ok to drink coffee from, a particular favourite coffee mug, a hot-chocolate mug, and mugs that are only to be used when doing DIY or gardening (or given to workmen ). DH doesn't get any of that and just uses the one at the front of the cupboard - though he is getting better at using matching mugs if we are both having a drink.

RubyPink · 07/06/2010 09:27

blimey I thought I was the only one! I have a few (maybe 2 or 3) faves, and if my tea is in the wrong one I really don't like it!

gramercy · 07/06/2010 09:33

Fast forward 40 years, you lot... (and me, I confess)

You will all be the pensioners from hell making a huge fuss about someone using your Royal Doultoncups and getting on your dil's nerves. And as well as the 'favourite mug' you will also have the 'favourite chair' which will cause scowling and cats' bums faces if anyone dares to sit in it.

lifeas3plus1 · 07/06/2010 10:00

I have day's of the week cups which I use for my tea, Helps me count down the day's until dp get's home on a Friday easier. It gets rinsed between cups until I move onto the next day.

For the weekend I have one of those cute little teapots that stand in a tea cup on a saucer.

I have a nice big thick cup for coffee and a looongggg pretty butterfly mug for hot chocolate!

biddysmama · 07/06/2010 10:43

i had a favourite mug, it said world greatest mummy and my ds bought it for me.... dd smashed it the other day so maybe shes not as sure about my parenting skills as ds is...

Linnet · 07/06/2010 11:21

I have a favourite mug which I bought on holiday and always use, nobody else is allowed to use it apart from me. If it got broken I would need to go back on holiday to the place I bought it so I could get another one
