To be a bit [hmm] at Figleaves?

I confess I used to work for them, but I was a bit annoyed at this.

Why have they not linked to the NHS breastfeeding site, but linked to Cow and Gate? I have sent them a very detailed email pointing this out which I know they will appreciate.

No judginess involved. I guess it's like the Tesco newborn nappy packaging.

Linking to C&G site is not exactly promoting formula. Yes they should have a link to a BF support site alongside the C&G one. look... C&G might be a FF company but they aren't pure evil.

I see from the "most recent posts" on your profile that you only post in Important Things In The World Right Now threads.

why do all new threads need to be life & death? or is that only in infant feeding? trivia seems to be tolerated in general on MN.

foureleven - illegal to promotr infant formula

SoupDragon · 06/06/2010 20:56

But Eric, what other C&G product is appropriate for a maternity checklist?

where has anyone said that either they or formula is evil?

yes, whooosh, Mrsgordonfreeman's concerns are roughly equivalent to genocide.
give or take.

whooosh · 06/06/2010 20:57

Not sure what was offensive about my post but really I am staggered at how it can be seen as an "issue".
Will it damage or injure anyone?
Should Figleaves go bust and put parents of children out of work becasue the only advertising they could raise was the ones they have?
This is of course hypothetical (or maybe not-who knows?) but formula does exist and is hardly the devil's work.....Figleaves are hardly Nestle (which fyi-I DO boycott)

SoupDragon · 06/06/2010 20:59

'Is this "breast-feeding Nazi-ism" at it's best?'

This is what is offensive, Wooosh.

EricNorthmansmistress · 06/06/2010 21:00

I just meant that the site is actually quite comprehensive and has info on lots of things, pregnancy, labour, breastfeeding. It's not all SPECIAL OFFER CHEAP FORMULA BUY OUR SUBSTITUTE BREASTMILK!!!!

ticktockclock · 06/06/2010 21:00

OMG Seriously??????

SoupDragon · 06/06/2010 21:03

"the site is actually quite comprehensive and has info on lots of things"

Why do you think it has that information? Out of the goodness of their heart or because of brand recognition? they have it there so you read it for info and have the brand name in your mind when you choose a formula, because there is very little info available when making a choice of which brand to use. A large number of mothers simply go with a brand they recognise.

And indeed only a simpleton would go to a lingerie site for advice on breastfeeding.

Knowing what I know about Figleaves, I think it's unlikely that they have received money from C&C for the link. These pages are written and designed by relatively junior staff and I don't really expect them to be completely au fait with the ins and outs of infant feeding.

However, I know that they will be very grateful for the advice I have sent them.

MathsMadMummy · 06/06/2010 21:05

oh dear what did I stumble upon? was expecting something about bad customer service after an escaped underwire!

hmm. not sure what I think about that link really - am doing a BF peer supporter training course (and FWIW we are NOT 'BF Nazis'!) so I'll ask the HV who runs it on Friday how it fits in with the rules.

foureleven yes illegal to promote infant formula i.e. below 6 months, so many loopholes though!

EricNorthmansmistress · 06/06/2010 21:07

Meh - a lot of fuss about nothing. I wouldn't have gone to the C&G site for BF support but the advice looks fine.

whooosh · 06/06/2010 21:08

I apologies if that was seen as offensive but I do feel that we as Mothers can so very easlit get wound up by the breast v bottle thing.
I resent the pressure applied to breastfeed as I am pro-choice for all in (most)situations.
Figleaves may be run by childless women or a bunch of blokes....but it is a clothing site.If they had a link to child prornography sites I would be the first to hunt them down but just because they have a formula-manufacturer's ad on their site it causes a furore?

mrsgordonfreeman · 06/06/2010 21:13

wooosh, the pressure is all lip service and not backed up by anything like consistent support.

That is partly why I find stuff like this mildly irritating. Breastfeeding is undermined in countless tiny and entirely unintentional ways from all sorts of places you wouldn't expect.

Anyway, it's not breast v bottle. Figleaves' links don't lead directly to any breastfeeding advice! I know I'm repeating myself but it's bad marketing practice if you want women to buy more feeding bras.

OP posts:
Sassybeast · 06/06/2010 21:14

Whoosh - you are perfectly entitled to be pro choice and to resent your perceived pressure about BF. But the term BF Nazis is really really REALLY offensive. I'm pro BF, but to be likened to people who committed mass genocide is OTT and offensive to me personally and more importantly, to the survivers of genocide and their families as it completley belittles the enormity of their experiences. If you wasnt to maintain an ounce of credibility when discussing BF, then you need to steer clear from the term.

mrsgordonfreeman · 06/06/2010 21:14

Figleaves, btw, when I left, was run by a bunch of little Napoleons, male and female. Arses, elbows, they needed a diagram to show them which was which.

OP posts:
ticktockclock · 06/06/2010 21:16

I don't think it is bad marketing advice for wanting people to buy more breastfeeding bras, I don't believe the majority of people read into it the same way you have. I read the lists and it went into bf bras, tops, breast pads, etc. I thought quite the contrary actually.

SPBHatesFootball · 06/06/2010 21:18

no one has answered me about trivial threads? Are there people who really only post on deeply serious, life & death stuff?
