MamaG · 06/06/2010 13:58

I am so cross!

I started teh "i fucking hate my fucking cunting electric oven" in a rage

YES it was ott, but hell, I was very angry.

The "cunting" has been taken out of hte thread title. I wasn't asked, or informed.

Cunting sainsburys was NEVER censored.

"nothing tastes as good...." =- op was asked to change title, she refused, title stayed.

WHY is it ok to change MY thread title withotu even asking me? Or informing me?

I'm really annoyed and was giong ot de-reg in a fit of pique but thought I'd better count to 100 first

but I am very and DISAPPOINTED HQ

I'm a bit undecided on this one. On one hand I'm all for freedom of expression - and sometimes swearing can be used in a humourous way in a thread title.

Not a huge fan of excessive swearing for no good reason though, and understand why it might offend some people.

Speaking as a past moderator on many and various websites though, you really ought to have been informed. I get that this is a free website provided for us and therefore we don't get to lay down the law - but informing people when their words have been changed or edited is really a basic 'right'.

YABU to have brought out the big guns over an oven.
YANBU to expect to be informed when censored.

VinegarTits · 06/06/2010 14:15

YANBU there have been a few offensive thread titles of late, one in particular, were loads complained and MNHQ asked the OP if they could change it, the OP said no, so MNHQ left it abeit it didnt have a swear word in it, but it was still offensive to certain people iykwim?

unavailable · 06/06/2010 14:20

Could mnhq have differnt rules on swearing cos its Sunday?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 06/06/2010 14:20

Seriously?

Times are bad when you cannot even say the word CUNT on MN. It's just 4 letters, well 7 in your case. Means the same as pussy. Or fanny. "my fucking fannying oven" wouldn't have been censored. Oh MNHQ

Psammead · 06/06/2010 14:22

Would just like to add to my post - having no clear cut guidelines on this kind of thing isn't only hard on the posters (for whom inconsistencies seem unfair) but also on the moderators who have to go by their own sensibilities. Obviously not everyone has the same standards.

Would suggest that titles in AIBU should be anything goes but the other talk topics should be kept clean.

hocuspontas · 06/06/2010 14:26

I don't have a problem with swearing in titles but agree there needs to be some consistency. If I don't like the look of a title I hide it though rather than report it.

differentID · 06/06/2010 14:30

I think that in that case, how did Cunting sainsbury's make it to classics without a debate about the "offensive" title and this one have the same word, used in the same context, removed from the title without even a courtesy e-mail to the OP to say that many people had complained?

I am against the majority of censorship- perhaps MNHQ are a little trigger happy on the delete/ edit button this weekend? Whatever the reason it smacks of rudeness not to even consult the OP, when others do get afforded that courtesy.

One rule for all and all that

Ronaldinhio · 06/06/2010 14:32

loads of people are offended by or don't like the use of cunt or cunting and that's probably the reason

change your user name to cuntingmamag

OP posts:
Adair · 06/06/2010 15:06

Are we even sure it was removed on purpose?

Could it have been edited by mistake (removed and then retyped, but wrongly)? Or something.
MN HQ, you need to clarify!!

FWIW, I quite liked the title too.

Thediaryofanobody · 06/06/2010 15:09

YANBU as you said they never changed cunting Sainsburys.
MN is changing without a doubt before you know it we'll be calling each other witches and whispering about about baby dancing.....

You know, I saw your thread title in active earlier and thought it looked odd, like it was missing something! Now I know why.

Have MNHQ said why yet?

BreevandercampLGJ · 06/06/2010 15:25

Calm down dear, it was only an expletive.
