to think this is really crap customer service

I went to a big DIY chain today to get a few bits. When I picked up a garden spade I cut my hand open quite badly on a shard of metal sticking out on it. None of the other spades had this so it was clearly just a fault on this one, but nonetheless quite dangerous.

When I showed my bleeding hand to one of their staff and explained I had cut it on a piece of their equipment, she sneered at me and simply said "What do you expect me to do about it?" I pointed out that the equipment was still on the shelf, and perhaps she would like to remove it. She then looked at my hand again, and suggested I queue up at customer services to get it looked at by a first aider (which I didn't)

AIBU to ring the store and complain about this, or shall I just leave it now? I'm not so bothered about cutting myself of the spade, as these things can happen, just her rudeness.

Yes complain. It was dangerous, she was rude. Homebase Some stores have awful customer service.

llbeanj · 01/06/2010 23:14

should have slapped her, could always have blamed blood loss. ring, write and complain - they should be recording accidents and doing something to prevent them, not acting like stroppy teenagers.

hellymelly · 01/06/2010 23:16

That is terrible! Complain.Threaten to sue them .

Wonderstuff · 01/06/2010 23:17

That is awful
You would not be at all unreasonable to complain to the store

I won't go to B&Q anymore, get so angry with the massive sole destroying queues and the lack of any knowledgeable staff..

imgonnaliveforever · 01/06/2010 23:20

I wish I'd confronted her about her rudeness at the time. I was just really taken aback that, given that I could probably sue for financial compensation if I were that way inclined, she couldn't even be bothered to walk me to first aid, or to remove the damaged item without prompting.

Am not surprised...they have the worst customer service of any shop I know.

Worst experience was when one of their kitchen design people swore and screamed at me in the middle of the store for being (in her words) a fucking timewaster

cornsilkcottagecheese · 02/06/2010 10:16

I had a really bad experience in B and Q. They are absolutely crap.

runnybottom · 02/06/2010 11:03

A customer died in B&Q here a while back when a heavy box fell on his head from a high shelf.
