Asked the mum of one (twins) of DD1's friends (age nearly 9), if she could have her for me tomorrow - half term I am in work!

We all live on the same street, and the girls are in and out freely of each others houses, though mine mostly, as it seems as the only single parent on the street, I have children in here the most (??no DH to make a fuss), I often take them out with us to the park etc.

Said if it was a problem, I could make other arramgements, but thought the girls would like to play if possible, and warned her I would be latish home as I am on call so unpredictable!

She was absolutely fine with this and said with pleasure, this was weeks ago!

Tonight, she texts me to say they are all going out for a family dinner at 5pm and would that be ok to get Georg for then ! Umm not really as she well knows, there is no way I can be finished work by 5pm!

Now as it is, DD1 is very mature and responsible, and will be ok in the house by herself from 5-6:30pm, I have a friend across the road who will keep an eye on her, but if not, it would have really landed me in it last minute

I know she is doing me a big favour already, but I think if you tell someone you will do something, to change the arrangements last minute is a bit off AIBU ??

Yab a bit u. You asked her to have dd for the day. She is having her for the day. 5pm is the end of the day. She has something on at 5.

Can your dd not go to your friend across the road for the last hour and a half rather than be at home by herself?

I get that but when I asked her, I made a point of saying it was highley unlikely I would be home before 6:30pm, she knows what I do and will realise there is no way I can finish early!

The mum across the road is likely to be in and out picking up and dropping off other children, though there will be someone in the house if DD1 needs them (unlikely).
