Or rather, defend me in my self-righteous stance

maybe the school should have words with her instead, ours usually put something in the newsletter when people do this

LauraNorder · 31/05/2010 20:25

No YANBU - that's why the lines are there! Of course she can move her grand-daughter.

Surprise · 31/05/2010 20:29

I do this all the time. It really, really winds me up. Why do some people think they're more important than everyone else? YANBU at all.

letsblowthistacostand · 31/05/2010 20:30

She shouldn't be leaving her GD in the car either, but that's a whole other thread.

Tootlesmummy · 31/05/2010 20:31

You did the right thing, her granddaughter isn't any more precious than any other child and for her to say that she is is outrageous.

fuzzywuzzy · 31/05/2010 20:33

YANBU, I had a rather bizarre conversation with a group of work colleagues a while ago, all three drive and have done so for a long time, they all insisted that they can park on yellow zizags when school is out!

I thought yellow zigzag is pretty much never OK to park on?

Clary · 31/05/2010 20:33

Thanks ladies, I am a bit fearful of feedback from mum (whom I know somewhat) if I have identified the grandma correctly!

Still I guess I am on solid ground. The "safety of my gd is more important" took me back a bit tbh.

Not that she was any safer outside school (but still not visible) than 200m up the road, but yes, that's a totally different thread!

It always makes me laugh when people do this sort of thing, or park on double yellows and put their hazards on while they do their business. It still isn't legal/reasonable just because you put your hazards on you know!

BusyMissIzzy · 31/05/2010 21:13

I know MrsC, people seem to think that putting hazard lights on entitles them to park wherever they like.

And OP, I think you did the right thing. It really annoys me when people think the rules don't apply to them (see also: people who drive the wrong direction in one-way car parks). Grr!

mamatomany · 31/05/2010 21:20

No not unreasonable I have done the same and am friends again with the lady in question 4 years later, especially after pointing out it might be her child that got flattened as a result of her parking on the zig zags.

Mingg · 31/05/2010 21:22

Well I saw a lady reverse into a £50K Merc yesterday and drive off...

Eeeeek! I saw a guy in a bag fat Merc reverse into an equally bid fat Audi. Made even more amusing by the fact the driver was in the Audi and the Merc had rear parking sensors....

Mingg · 31/05/2010 21:35

Lol - in my case the reversing car was an old Volvo and the Merc driver was nowhere to be seen
