Look soooooo common, or is my age (47)

OP posts:
Kaloki · 31/05/2010 14:02

"Do you honestly go around thinking all women in their mid-forties are tattoo haters who think you are vulgar? How judgmental of you."

If that was at me, no I don't, I forgot the at the end. I know loads of women in their 40's with tattoos, and they look wonderful. I am thankfully aware that Gichin is in the minority for this view.

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 14:04

"I still wouldn't trust myself to get something that would stand the test of time, though. And still look good and make me look good.

If I was ever to get a tattoo it would probably be very small, hidden and some sort of art deco design or motif, since that has a great deal of personal meaning to me - so hardly offensive - but I still can't grasp putting something permanent on my body and still thinking it looks good years and years later."

Totally understand. For all of my tattoos I kept the design I wanted somewhere I'd see it every day for over a year before getting it tattooed. Am planning my next two now actually, have had my heart set on one of them for 2 years.

paisleyleaf · 31/05/2010 14:06

I can only think of about 2 tattoos I've ever seen that have looked nice.
There are a few women I know who have them more like stamps (in that there are several dotted around their bodies, but not in anyway connected: might be a dolphin here, a winnie the pooh there, japaneze writing). They seem insecure and almost like self harm.
T C Boyle wrote that he don't like tattoos in intimate places .... they just suggest 'traffic' - I know what he means.

I have never seen a tattoo that looked attractive, whatever design, however old the person, male or female, wherever placed ...

To each their own.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 31/05/2010 14:22

startshaker I nosied on your profile, the tattoo on your foot is EXACTLY what I'm after, but with another 2 of the slightly smaller stars, do you think it would work with that?

if made a little longer iygwim?

Ta muchly!

cheesesarnie · 31/05/2010 14:27

harleyd · 31/05/2010 14:28

theres some really beautiful tatts out there and some really awful, badly done ones
i love mine and i dont care what anyone else thinks

usualsuspect · 31/05/2010 14:34

I'm old and I like them ..

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 14:38

"I'd get a tattoo myself only I have seen elderly people who had tattoos done about 50 years ago and are now left with a greenish smudge."

Thankfully inks have improved since then

LisaD1 · 31/05/2010 14:39

Seriously OP have you nothing better to do than sit in your ivory tower and judge others?

I don't have a tattoo. My mum however lost her beloved mum and she (my nan) loved roses, my mum at the age of 55 had a tattoo of a rose on her shoulder in memory of her mum, who are you to say she was wrong?

I have lots of friends that have tattoo's and none of them are chavs! They are however decent human being's who do not spend their time judging others over their personal choice of what they do to their body!

TheBolter · 31/05/2010 14:41

I really dislike tattoos. I nearly had one once when I was a student. Thank god I didn't.

If other people want them though, that's fine. I hardly find them offensive. I do think they look common though, no matter who you are. But while I think they look common, I wouldn't assume that the person bearing them was... IYKWIM. There's a lot more to a person than his/her tatts!

BritFish · 31/05/2010 14:44

petisa's comments are really making me smile!

Petisa, i too hope to be a wonderfully wierd old granny who has batty hair, strange tattoos and a sense of humour compared to the old tutting ladies on a bus who have nothing else in their lives other than spoiling their grankids and making cups of tea. [and i plan to do those things...alongside being bonkers and old, best combination ever!]

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 14:51

I've decided that I'm going to get my hair cut into a mohawk once I reach retirement age.

I've now added pictures to my profile where you can see 3 of my tattoos.

usualsuspect · 31/05/2010 14:54

I'm gonna be the batty old lady at the bus stop .kissing all the babies

oh wait.....

BritFish · 31/05/2010 14:54

Kaloki, im already bright red, so im planning flame blonde/orange/yellow/pink/red for my 60th!

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 15:05

Ooh I like it Britfish!

TheBolter · 31/05/2010 15:10
Grin
BritFish · 31/05/2010 15:28

its going to be the perfect mix of innapropriate and embarassing

gtamom · 31/05/2010 15:30

To come on and say tattoo's are common, you know very well you will be offending many members here who have them. What was the point of that?

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 15:40

I think the point was to offend TBH. Don't think she's any more intelligent than that.

petisa · 31/05/2010 15:46

Britfish I love brightly coloured hair! I'd love bright brick red hair, but I don't have the time to maintain it atm, so I just have my fringe done sometimes.

Kaloki, love your photos, you have lovely skin! You'd look really fab with your arms tattooed, bright colours would suit you.

petisa · 31/05/2010 15:47

Can we tattooed ladies all meet up for a cuppa when we're 70?

Megatron · 31/05/2010 15:50

I don't care what someone else does to their body. I don't like tattoos particularly but I don't see how someone else having one would affect me at all, or how it makes them 'desperate', how so? IMO it's kinda desperate to post this kind of thread looking for attention but hey ho.

harleyd · 31/05/2010 16:00

last time i was in the tattoo studio i was talking to a wee woman who had just turned 71
she had got her first tattoo at 68 and now has 2 full sleeves and a backpiece. she was so lively and full of fun and i just thought yeah fair play to her
