Anything with wheels is a boy's toy. Anything glittery or vaguely connected to childcare is a girls' toy. Anything that can't be neatly divided by gender must come in pink and blue versions ( like the bloody Pritt sticks ButterflyParty mentions, not to mention the ELC globes)

A revolution is needed methinks. Manufacturers need to be pulled up on this casual sexism they indulge in

In a big department store!

Yes, I've seen the PS website, it's good and they do seem to be getting their message across.

Even a friend of dd's at school told her that cars were 'boys' toys' - so I just told my dd to ask her friend who drives her to school every day!

ButterflyParty, sorry...I misread Pink Sticks as Pritt Sticks

My dd1 has a box of cars (100+) and a box of plastic dinosaurs .

My dad is a transexual and would have loved dolls etc. as he grew up but was definitely not allowed. I try to oppose all these stereotypical things personally, it frustrates me that we are happy to pigeonhole children like this.

EnvelopeDuvet · 29/05/2010 22:38

Totally off topic, but where did you get a die cast ice cream van? DS has been asking for one for days! THanks

In Elphicks. £3.99. It is not actually a miniature (a la Matchbox or Hot Wheels) but more hand-sized. Tis very nice, hadn't seen them before either.
