If anyone posted about a race issue they would be BLASTED, and rightly so

but there seems to be an acceptance (from some, not all) that to be disparaging of the social mores of the white working classes is just fine, no problem!

their eating habits
baby hairbands
pierced earrings
football shirts
the stupid fucking greggs, fruit shoot joke
anyone that posts using text speak/poor grammer
and so on...
posting in a way that mocks the way they speak
a vile thtread from someone I wont name about @chavs@ in her park

I am not tarring everyone with the same brush, but I think its rather sad that its seen as "ok" to disparage a certain group

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 12:18

Hey, you were the one suggesting that it's ok for the poor to eat shite, because they are poor...

I think you need to take a look at yourself on this issue!

katycarr · 29/05/2010 12:21

I object to the fact that you identify the above with being working class.

I am working class my dd eats well, she is not allowed pierced ears, we speak properly and are highly educated.

porcamiseria · 29/05/2010 12:22

No I did not! where did I say that???? I just think its stupid to get fussed about how different people eat, as there will always be different strokes, and that post struck me as being very cats bum

OP posts:
StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 12:22

What katycarr said.

katycarr · 29/05/2010 12:23

You seem to be suggesting that the above are my "social mores" they are not

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 12:24

You did, you said that it was acceptable for people "on lower incomes" to eat at MacDonalds. As if they cannot be expected to know any better.

Look in the mirror love!

Kaloki · 29/05/2010 12:26

I have to take issue with the chav thing, being one of the "alternative" scene who started using insults like chav (or it was townie down south), it has sod all to do with class and far more to do with it being the group most responsible for attacking "alt" kids for the way they dress.

Chav was the derogatory way of identifying who would be most likely to kick your head in.

So I will still use chav as an insult.

katycarr · 29/05/2010 12:27

I think you do have a point in there somewhere but you are not expressing it well. It amuses me no end to see everyone tripping over themselves trying to out middle class one another.

But hey ho each to their own.

My dd is currently sat in her footbool strip though.

katycarr · 29/05/2010 12:28

I hate the word chav tbh.

porcamiseria · 29/05/2010 12:28

ERR no I did not, my post is below. I would never say something like that:

I WROTE:
get the fuck over it, sorry but SO FUCKING WHAT some children eat shit, some children dont even get to eat sadly
this is the world we live in

where am I jibing at lower incomes??

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 29/05/2010 12:28

I don't think all of those criteria you have listed fit any one group of people, and certainly not the "working class"!

I agree that you have rather shown yourself to be suffering from the very thing you are complaining about in others - very "glass house" of you.

Actually, it was posieparker, sorry.

She's still being a snob though. I'm working class and do none of the above.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 29/05/2010 12:33

"It amuses me no end to see everyone tripping over themselves trying to out middle class one another"

It's interesting you see this, from my POV I find it interesting people tripping over themselves to claim to be working class because their father was a coal miner and their mother was a dinner lady even if they themselves are now a lawyer in the city.

DuelingFanjo · 29/05/2010 12:34

porcamiseria, does this mean you think things like hairbands and earings are something a specific class of people have?

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 12:36

Actually scrap what I said about me being working class.

People who even care about class need to get a life. This country is now so diverse and varied that finding any amount of people to actully form a "class" is probably impossible.

There are aboyt fifty or so mumsnetters in the UK who call themselves middle class. I think the majority of the country has moved beyond the 1950's...

Yep, I was simply clarifying what she was saying.

I don't call people chavs.

Wind yer neck in.

porcamiseria · 29/05/2010 12:42

clearly I have not expressed myself very well, fair play. I just get a bit red and angry by the casual prejudice in some posts on here

of course the things I list are not the exclusive preserve of one group of people.

I am going to shut up now, and when I see it on here, I will call on it rather than post about it

the post was the macdonald thread but I did not say what stuck thought I did anyway! as stuck has admitted

It's not a retort so much as advice.

And you're wrong.

The post was:

"so I can see why people on lower incomes go to MacDonalds as otherwise they would never be able to eat out. "

katycarr · 29/05/2010 12:51

Even when I was on a seriously low income I did not see McDonalds as a meal out. As others said on the thread I went to a local cafe, often cheaper

pinkfizzle · 29/05/2010 12:51

Ok I started the thread about a BABY eating MacDonalds - I was not disparaging the parents at all - I was shocked because of the salt levels and the baby appeared to be very young - however MacDonalds are aggressive in their advertising to children.

This was a very young baby and yes I was probably interested because I have a young baby too.

OP, I was in MacDonalds eating too, and I have since decided not to go there as it can not be a good healthy eating example for my baby.

Rollmops · 29/05/2010 12:52

"..It amuses me no end to see everyone tripping over themselves trying to out middle class one another..."

What on Earth is wrong with being middle class?????? Kerrist on bike....
