If anyone posted about a race issue they would be BLASTED, and rightly so

but there seems to be an acceptance (from some, not all) that to be disparaging of the social mores of the white working classes is just fine, no problem!

their eating habits
baby hairbands
pierced earrings
football shirts
the stupid fucking greggs, fruit shoot joke
anyone that posts using text speak/poor grammer
and so on...
posting in a way that mocks the way they speak
a vile thtread from someone I wont name about @chavs@ in her park

I am not tarring everyone with the same brush, but I think its rather sad that its seen as "ok" to disparage a certain group

Ds had 'An Utterly Impartial History of Britain' out of the library recently (not a particularly good book) and one of the chapters is called 'How the British Empire lost its power just as ordinary British people gained theirs.'

I do not think that those two processes co-incided by chance. Class, race, ethnicity and gender are linked issues.

BelleDameSansMerci · 29/05/2010 16:21

MillyR - understood! I'm always MN-ing at work and trying hard not to.

I wasn't trying to be provocative - just wondered what your thoughts were. I wondered if you would consider accent. I definitely agree with that one. My mum corrected my speech so I have quite a "posh" voice and I'm sure it's helped me a lot.

The dentist thing is more about money. I accept though that being working class probably also means that you will have a lower income.

MillyR · 29/05/2010 16:25

I think a lot of material disadvantages and getting a raw deal from various services are also caused by knowledge of how certain systems work, and not just money. Middle class people are more likely to work within various services or know someone who does, so can argue or work the system more effectively to get the outcome that they want.

HerBeatitude, v interesting post!

in other news

ShortOnTime, i hope you plan on coming back and apologising for comparing CHILD ABUSE to EAR PIERCING.
what the fffffff.

personally, i dont think a child should have its ears pierced until its old enough to ask for it/look after it itself, thats my personal take on it, and other parents feel differently.

but to compare it to child abuse?
i hope you got carried away and your meaning has [somehow] come across wrong]
