On wed i was having a rather crap day, not feeling to well, and the children at nursery kept pooping on the floor, so i was rather fed up when i went out to lunch, so there i was standing in star bucks waiting for my drink, keeping myself to myself, when a lady comes over laughs at me and says and i quote 'you know i think it would be better if you ate less' me 'excuse me, why is that' she 'well you are rather fat, a bit to big for your frame, I'm only saying this cause i think it would help you are rather fat' me

I then i asked her to stop talking to me and leave, to be honest she did seem a little odd but who says that to people??

I bet she has recently lost lots of weight
the laughing is odd though

No never met her before, i work at uni she looked like a student as much as someone can look like one.

That is weird and very rude but I think it is a good job you didn't slap her as she sounds like a bit of a looney and might have slapped you back!

Well i very calmer asked her to leave, and didn't resort to any kind of violence, i in now encouraged her to come over and speak to me, and yet she choose to do this. I did say she seemed a little odd when i came in, maybe i should have said mental health issues instead.

I had a shop worker say that to me in Tesco. I was grabbing some junk for a birthday party so was in the cake aisle and she kept going on and on about if I didn't eat that stuff I'd lose weight etc.

My ds (who's autistic) might well come out with something like that, just as a conversational observation! Does sound like someone who might have mental health issues. V restrained that you managed to keep yourself in check though, cos I'd've probably been really rude then thought about it and been mortified!

What i kept thinking after was, if she does have some mental health issues (although to be honest i didn't phrase it like that) she may be absolutely gutted that she had said that, so in my head i kept thinking poor girl for saying that. It happens all the time i see these people in other social situations appearing to embarrass themselves and it really pulls on my heart strings.

Writing it down on here, has made me angry at her again, mainly cause i know i am over weight i don't really like being told, (does anyone?) but it makes me feel all sad to.

You don't sound hopeless you sound like a nice person for thinking about why she might have said that to you. Bottom line is though when a complete stranger catches you off guard like is really rude about something personal it makes you feel crap.

Have a glass of wine and be kind to yourself for the evening, I would have wanted to slap her or be rude back too, you didn't so good on you.

I agree - sounds like she had mental health issues. Anyone else would know not to be so rude or insensitive. I think your response was spot on - you let her know that it was an inappropriate thing to say and it had upset you but without being rude or slapping her (much as she deserved it LOL!).
