to give my 10.5 month old cows milk to drink instead of formula

A few times recently i have given DD2 (10.5 months) cows milk to drink instead of formula and she doesn't seem to notice the difference. I have just finished the formula this morning and am considering not buying anymore and just giving her full fat milk, i know they say a year but can six weeks really make a difference? I just find formula such a faff.

as long as her solids intake is 3 good meals and varied I would do the same. maybe you can compromise and give her 1 bottle of formula in 24 hrs so the tin may last a month then no more? I believe it is safe to use formula for a month after opening but check the label. don't listen to me. you could also store the powdered formula in the fridge for freshness.

Equally, for the sake of 6 weeks do you really need to stop now? I was certainly giving dd cows' milk to drink at that age but it was the other way round, formula but one bottle per day of cows'. I don't suppose she'll come to any harm but if the guidelines are 12 months I'd stick to that.

i switched dd over to cows milk at 11 months because she started going to nursery and it was much simpler to let them give her cows milk than me have to make up bottles send them in and them warm them (as this wasn't how she was used to) she was fine.

does she have plenty of variety in her diet - at that age dd ate everything put in front of her (she's now 4.5 and a picky madam when it suits her)

I switched to cows milk on a flight to California when DD was 10.5 months old. We'd taken SO much formula but ran out during the flight. Cows milk was offered by the cabin crew and my daughter loved it, much to the delight of DH and I and our fellow passengers :-)

How much formula would the cows milk be replacing - that's the key I think. If it's more than one bottle a day I wouldn't do it. We started switching ds1 to cows milk from 11.5 months as it was only about 6oz once a day. Did one oz cows to 5 formula for two days, upping the proportions every two days, and the tin ran out about two days before he turned one.

Good point sparkle. DD was, and still is, drinking gallons of milk per day.

I started giving my DS cow's milk when he was 9months old and he was pretty ok with it, so no YANBU
