to be annoyed aat Nursery staff actions?

My ds is at a Nursery, a lovely one and I think the staff that worj with him are great. When I drop off/pick him up from there I tend to drop my dd (6months) in the office for a few minutes to save me carting her up 2 flights of stairs in her car seat while I get ds.

I did that today when I was picking ds up and as I was coming to the bottom of the stairs, a member of staff was coming out of the office with my dd, taking her into the baby room "to change her nappy because she had filled it" apparently. I was quite taken back really. My dd doesn't go to the Nursery and neither she nor I know the staff in the baby room. Plus, I think they should have asked me first! At the time, I just went with it. But when I got home and thought about it, it has really annoyed me!

Yes completely - fgs, they were being helpful!

HeywoodJablome · 25/05/2010 21:08

What about it has actually annoyed you?

cookielove · 25/05/2010 21:08

Was she crying in there arms?

I work in a nursery, and wouldn't have thought anything wrong with changing her nappy, i may have waited till you returned to ask you, but i don't think it really is worth being annoyed over.

Unless they have upset her, then i think it would be easier if you had done it yourself

compo · 25/05/2010 21:08

yabu

if you just dump your child in the office you should expect them to look after it

what if everyone couldn't be botheed to traipse their younger siblings up the stairs ? the office may as well employ nursery workers for the morning drop off and call itself a second baby room

mumbar · 25/05/2010 21:09

YA and YANBU. They were trying to help and probably as they know you and DS and you trust them with DD they didn't think anything about it.

They change so many nappies one more prob didn't even seem wierd!!

redskyatnight · 25/05/2010 21:09

I would never object to someone changing my child's pooey nappy That sounds like a lovely thoughtful thing to do. They had no idea how long you might be and presumably didn't want to go chasing all the way up stairs to find you.

.

feedthegoat · 25/05/2010 21:10

I'd be pleased that they were so helpful personally.

If you don't actually trust them with your dd then why are you even leaving her with them in the first place?

Sassybeast · 25/05/2010 21:11

So you are happy to leave your child in a room with staff that you claim don't know her and then get annoyed when they try to help ? YABU.

ruddynorah · 25/05/2010 21:11

do you need to take her in her car seat? i take ds in on my hip.

Vallhala · 25/05/2010 21:12

It's called a kindness. A rare thing, which should be received with gratitude and grace.

Think about it.

booyhoo · 25/05/2010 21:14

you are happy to leave your child in an office with people that have no obligation to look after her and they have no problem with this. but you have a problem with them actually looking after her?

make up your mind.

Lilyloo · 25/05/2010 21:14

yadbu they obv thought they were being helpful.
TBH i find it odd that you trust them enough to leave your child with them whilst you collect your other but not to change a nappy

rubyslippers · 25/05/2010 21:15

of course YABU

booyhoo · 25/05/2010 21:15

why are nursery staff getting such a hard time today on MN? is there something in the air?

2cats2many · 25/05/2010 21:16

YABU- they were being kind, not commenting on your performance as a mother.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 25/05/2010 21:17

What booyhoo said. Think its really kind of them. Would you have thought them negligent if they had left her in a pooey nappy ?

mumbar · 25/05/2010 21:17

booyhoo took the thoughts from my boogled mind!!

southeastastra · 25/05/2010 21:18

i'd think it a bit odd, do they charge? your next bill will have £2.50 added

DaftApeth · 25/05/2010 21:19

I think they were doing you a huge favour and you are being unreasonable.

How odd to be offended by them doing this

pinkmagic1 · 25/05/2010 21:20

I would have been happy for them to have changed the nappy in the same situation. You obviously trust the nursery with your DS otherwise he wouldn't be there. Get over it or don't dump your DD in the office.

booyhoo · 25/05/2010 21:20

£2.50 for a nappy change i am opening a creche!!!!

OrganicHairbrush · 25/05/2010 21:23

DD just pooed. Can you give me their phone number? Seriously, I'd just appreciate the gesture as one less napy to change... after all, they're CRB-checked and all...

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 25/05/2010 21:25

How nice that they care enough about a baby to not leave them lying in a dirty nappy.

Usually we hear people complaining that babies don't get changed enough in nurseries.

YABU and ungrateful I'm afraid.

MrsHarkness · 25/05/2010 21:26

I cant grasp why you are happy to leave your child with them one minute, but then claim that your not happy for people she doesnt know to take her off to change her nappy the next, its the same people, different room, you need to make up your mind!

Hulababy · 25/05/2010 21:27

Weren't they just helping you out? Doiung a nice thing?

Sorry, I don't understand what has annoyd you.

I guess the answer in future is to not leave your baby in their office if you don't trsut them enough to care for her. Take her upstairs with you.
