OK newbie here (loving it so far!) I may be being thick here but I dont know what "YABU by stealth" means or "coming in by stealth with more information" I've read these comments on a few threads and its lost me a bit, can someone help me please

It means posting just enough info on a YABU OP to get people to agree with you, then you slowly drip more information in until it becomes clear that YA absolutely BU.

pagwatch · 25/05/2010 19:40

it means that people often post in AIBU with something like

"AIBU to be cross with my DH for not giving me a present on my birthday "

everyone then posts - "of course not , what a sttingy git! Poor you"

at which point OP then says " don't be mean about my husband you viperish bitchy types - he gave me a diamond ring yesterday and is taking me to St Lucia tomorrow. I was just thinking it would have been nice to open something today"

They are usually attention seeking tossers and very very dull.

thanks for asking op, i didn't get it either!!!

CMOTdibbler · 25/05/2010 19:43

It can run something like this

OP - AIBU to expect my sister to wear her bridesmaid dress that I have spent so much on ?

YANBU..

OP - Oh good, cos DM says that I shouldn't have chosen something that shows her mastectomy scar

Mass breakdown..

Sometimes the OP will drip the information in over many posts that completely changes the picture of what they have originally said

larks35 · 25/05/2010 19:43

It works like this:

OP creates a thread (often controversial) everyone shouts YABU!!!!

Then OP comes back with further information that might make them seem less unreasonable and many shout "Stealth!!!" and some say "Ah maybe not so unreasonable etc. etc.".

If not enough posters agree with OP, then you might get even more info. to make you more sympathetic.

I've been a bit unfair there, some posters genuinely don't realise that further info. would help others judge whether or not they're BU. But thats the jist.

I've done it by accident - usually when I've been incensed about something and then not explained myself properly at all!!

MsHighwater · 25/05/2010 20:14

It is also sometimes tossed about as an accusation when someone posts something a bit short on detail; lots of people fill in the gaps themselves (wrongly usually) instead of asking questions; they scream YABU; then the OP objects, says what really happened and the accusers are annoyed because they realise they were hasty and have to make it seem like the OP's fault.
