say they hope the baby comes early! im 28 weeks, dd was 8lb 14 at 41 weeks and this baby is estimated as a 10 lb'er.. ds was born at 41 weeks as well so i've got 41 weeks in my head as when the baby will come... ive had people tell me they "hope the baby comes early for you"

why? if baby is ready at 41 weeks then so be it!

also, pregnant women who hope their baby is ealry.. i have a friend who is 30 weeks and wants her baby born now she keeps having twinges and saying she hopes this is it!

I wouldn't wish for a pre-term baby but after 37 weeks, then yes please!

i think when people have difficult pregnancies or even the fact that it seems to go on so long is why they are so anxious to get it over with. FWIW, i agree with you, babies will come when they are 'fully cooked' and ready to cope in the world. i heard somewhere (maybe on MN) that teh last 2 weeks in the womb is a really important time for the baby. cant remember why though, something to do with development.

I think there is early and early if you see what I mean?

I was overdue with my first and now that I'm 37wks with #2 I am hoping it comes 'early' ie. I'm hoping it'll come before the due date because I'm so FED UP!!

I don't feel like I'm wishing for anything awful as at this stage last time there was talk of inducing me because 37wks is considered full term. That being said, I can't imagine why anyone would want their baby to arrive at 30 wks if it could possibly be avoided. Maybe someone who has never been into a scbu??

They just mean that they hope their baby is ready to be born sooner rather than later. I'm sure nobody is seriously wishing for their baby to be born prematurely. Maybe you are okay with being pg at 41 weeks, given that this is what you expect, but lots of women find those last days really hard, esp with relatives phoning every 5 mins to see if anything has happened yet. I was 10 days late with dd, having been relatively on time with previous 3 pgs and by the end I was scared to go out in case my waters broke in the middle of the supermarket! My other dc were also v impatient. 10 days extra is a long time to wait when excited about the arrival of new baby sister!

I think what people mean is that the remember the discomfort of pregnancy in the last few weeks, and are hoping you don't have to suffer past your EDD.

As for your friend... Is this her first? I doubt she realises the seriousness od premature birth, and is just impatient wants to meet her baby.

People come out with some absolute shite sometimes. My eldest was born at 35 weeks and people are always saying "Lucky you no stretchmarks" "That's why you lost all the baby weight so quickly" or "Oooh it must have been so much easier giving birth to a small one". Yeah special care was great.

Sometimes people aren't trying to be nice they are being pissing stupid and it would be better for them to keep their lolling traps shut .

lol thesecondcoming... my dd was born at 41 weeks...i started getting cramps but thought it was food poisoning (ive had it before, felt the same) and went to bed to try sleep it of... an hour later i realised the pains were 11 mins apart... and rang the mw.. 4 hours after my 'food poisoning' started i was holding dd... and she was my 2nd! i have no idea why i ignored it!

Dear god by 35 weeks this time I was begging the little ratbag to leave. He hung around until 4 +1 though, that last week almost killed me - I was the size of a fucking house and hadn't slept properly for months.
