I cannot even bear to look at a photograph of him, never mind hear him on the radio or television.

Not such a problem with Dave and Nick, though its all a bit too chummy for my liking.

But George - there is just something not quite right. Not quite ... human.

Callisto · 25/05/2010 12:39

He doesn't bother me. As long as he does a good job as Chancellor then I don't care. Mandy, on the other hand, gives me a huge case of the creeps whenever I see/hear him.

maria1665 · 25/05/2010 12:42

Kind of agree re Mandelson, but the fact that he is so ridiculous (expert disco dancer, has a poodle, boyfriend called Pablo and passed an kidney stone last year) makes him more James Bond villain as opposed to Vincent Price Hammer Horror.

sethstarkaddersmum · 25/05/2010 12:43

YABU to detest him because of the way he looks. Go away and google and find some proper reasons to dislike him. (From previous threads I think there are some out there.)

slightlystressed · 25/05/2010 12:45

I think he likes the idea of a flat tax rate of 20something percent for everyone, thats a good reason not to like him.

maria1665 · 25/05/2010 12:47

No, no. Its not the way he looks - its the way speaks, behaves, the whole thing. The comparison with Mandelson is quite apt. Its as much to do with his attitude to being in power, as the actual things he has done. I just get a sense of someone very very power hungry.

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 25/05/2010 12:49

It's because he was the Bullingdon whipping boy. He's getting his own back

That's a good enough reason to not like him (IMO)

moondog · 25/05/2010 12:54

Osborne is appalling, as is Mandy (pmsl at the disco dancing gem. hilarious.)
However, i am all for the slash 'n burn policy with regards to righting Labour's insane handing out of money to all and bloody sundry.

porcamiseria · 25/05/2010 13:03

can he do his job? thats what matters

I have stopped my own "etonian club" rant, they are on board now and thats that

Rollmops · 25/05/2010 13:58

I find George Osborne a rather pleasant looking-speaking chap and have full confidence that he'll be good at his job.
The slash-and-burn of waste and wasters is a promising start....

OldMacEIEIO · 25/05/2010 14:01

HIPs, Quangos, Child trust fund

let the bonfire begin

LadyBlaBlah · 25/05/2010 14:03

You are not alone OP

The guy is a walking twat

(with no idea what he is doing)

Rollmops · 25/05/2010 14:32

Such cerebral postings as LadyBlahBlah just regurgitated are in a category of their own.

"(with no idea what he is doing) "

And you base your exceptionally astute statement on precisely what?

Rockbird · 25/05/2010 14:35

He creeps me out slightly as well, but I feel like that about Alistair Darling.

Callisto · 25/05/2010 14:43

I can't even bring myself to cut and paste your hideous insult LadyBlahBlah. I would guess though that George Osbourne is rather more articulate and rational than you.

ZoopAZoopTroupe · 25/05/2010 14:46

I don't necessarily have to like my politicians, but I do have to believe they have some sort of conviction and sense of purpose (that is not just about making themselves feel like 'Mr Big').

I don't feel that with Osborne. He is an unconvincing creep and an appalling choice for the Tories. They will definitely regret it.

Oh, and the 'Old Etonian rant' is a perfectly valid point (for all political parties, but especially the Tories). The culture of 'let's get my mate from the school debating club to do this prime government job' is shameful.

OldMacEIEIO · 25/05/2010 14:51

aye zoopzoop
completely unlike getting Hewitt from a major consultancy, shoving billions of contracts the consultancies way, then Hewitt walking back into said consultancy.

They all feather their nests, there is no especially about it. The sickening revolving door

it all has to go. Unite , smash the system

now where did I put that wine

Hopefully · 25/05/2010 14:58

I have yet to listen to a single thing he has promised to do - every time he appears on TV all I can think is Blackadder. He just looks like one of the posh aristocrats from one of the series...

gerontius · 25/05/2010 18:12

Because he's never actually had a job other than in politics?
Because he was a member of the Bullingdon club?
Because he doesn't know anything about being Chancellor?
I think those are good reasons.

LutyensCBA · 25/05/2010 18:31

I admit to a visceral hatred for him based on nothing more than instinct! I felt it the first time I saw his picture and it hasn't gone yet.

As for his job, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and let him mess up before I do any finger-pointing, but his lack of qualifications and/or experience in finance makes me very uneasy. Also the Osborne-Laws double-act looks very strange. It looks like Osborne is the fresh young upstart pushed forward to chair meetings while the "boss" keeps a beady eye on him from the background and judges him

tattycoram · 25/05/2010 18:38

I can't bear him, but I have also taken an extreme dislike to David Laws.

LutyensCBA · 25/05/2010 18:54

Oh, and Michael Gove. I cannot explain why I hate him so, I just do

ZephirineDrouhin · 25/05/2010 19:04

YANBU. I'm sure my dislike of him used to be based on fairly rational things, like his lack of experience and his ideas on how deal with the deficit. But for some reason all that seems to have been swept away now by a tide of raw horror that overwhelms me whenever he appears.

moondog · 25/05/2010 20:43

Lutynes, I love this
'I admit to a visceral hatred for him based on nothing more than instinct.'

You sound liek my kind of gal-is aldo my modus operandi.

LadyBlaBlah · 25/05/2010 20:51

LOL @ Callisto and Rollmop

The guy has no idea. His whole philosophy is based around his conviction that he "knows best" and thus his policies are based on what he thinks - not experience, advice, research or even any non-stereotypical thinking for his type of background (aka lateral thinking). It is all very very scary based on the fact he has never had a proper job of any description, has never had to earn any money, and has absolutely no experience of running anything. The fact he thinks he can do the job shows he is simply delusional.

I have said it before. He wouldn't even get a job in a FTSE 100 company as an FD/CFO
