to ask for public liability insurance (yawn)

sorry for boring thread!

Am going to have nearly £7k's worth of work done to house. Bloke doing it is very nice, knowledgable etc. Its more of a craft/art/restoration thing than a trade so for some reason I feel it might seem rude to ask for a copy of his public liability insurance, like I am questioning his professionalism or something.

AIBU to ask for it? I feel awkward. I don't know why as I am totally straightforward and bossy with work-related stuff. Because this is for home it seems different.

Just ask him for it. DH (insurance claims professional) always makes builders etc provide a copy of their certificates as he's seen the consequences when they haven't had it and it gets messy and expensive.

Any decent tradesman will be totally unworried by the request, and actually its a pretty good way of seeing whether they are reputable or not imo

Thanks, I needed a kick up the bum! I have emailed him saying we're going ahead subject to him providing it. I think if I was a tradesman I'd provide it with my quote in the first place.

Just hope he bloody well has one now. After years of not being able to afford the work and steadily watching it fall down I'd hate to have to find someone else!

Thanks all.
