I would send him to school as long as he hasn't had vomitting or diarrhoea for 48hrs. Sounds like he is better if he can go out for a long walk.

He should be off school within 24 hours of 'bathroom emergency' (diarrhoea or vomiting).

His tummy probably hurts from vomiting itself, rather than actually still having the bug. As long as he's held down more than one meal he should be fine.
