I feel a bit sad about this situation. We have just moved into a rented house on a large country estate. The Groundsman and his wife are lovely people, have bent over backwards to welcome us, and even mow our lawn for a four pack of lager every week. They were walking their big lurcher the other day and asked husband if it was ok to pop through our gate as a short cut to their house. Husband kindly said yes, no problem. Now they amble through it every day, and sometimes, the dog just bounds through the garden. It doesnt seem to be a threat to the kids, but I have just re homed my own dog and was relishing in the fact there were no dogs- turds- worms in our garden. Now we have this. And the part that bugs me, is that I never know when they will come through, so cant relax, sun bathe topless etc, just in case they come through. What to do? Put up and shut up, or say summert?

hmmm that's a tough one!
could your husband maybe approach it in a lighthearted way? say how it gave you a fright or something when you saw them come through the garden because you weren't expecting it?
make it clear that you didn't think this was something they were going to be doing

Say it frightens the kids and unfortunately, you'll have to ask them to stop?

Yes, I`m glad you can all see the sensative nature of this one. Have een discussing it with my freind and she suggsted we sunbathe topless or nude to shock them away.

I couldn`t lock the gate because I know it would offend them. I am such a big softy, hate confrontation.

I like the white lie about the dog. Mind you , my freinds kids were there the other day and were really shocked and a bit scared when a huge greaat big grey dog galloped past with tongue out etc.

Why do good people turn bad??????

Perhaps chat to the wife and say how you like to sunbath and could she ask her husband not to come through the garden because it would be embarrasing.

Or padlock the gate because the kids keep escaping?

thisisyesterday · 22/05/2010 21:37

yeah this weather is a great excuse for a chat about sunbathing, where you let slip that you like to go topless for an even tan!

OnEdge · 22/05/2010 21:39

yeah, the gate one is good, kids escaping.

An update - She came walking through yesterday and asked me if i minded i said "erm, well, with the scaffolders and the painters and everything its all a bit much really, we are very private people which is why we moved here. Why cant you go through the walled garden?" she said that she dint like going through the walled garden because she had to open a padlock and climb over a box.

She hasnt been through today as far as we know so fingers crossed we`ve cracked it.

What made me cross though was the thought that if we had bought the house rather than rening it, she wouldnt have ever done it. |Feel like a second rate person now.

Ive changed my name .
