the minute the sun comes out in april till it disappears again in October, all I can hear, all week-end are lawn mowers and even worse, strimmers.

Most of the people round here are retired. Why oh why oh why can't they do their bloody lawns in the week.

When I rule the world, I shall make it illegal for retired people to shop and mow on the week-end.

OMG you read my mind!

Have finally opened the patio doors (lost the key.....) which open onto a communal garden that we are lucky enough to have mown for us.

Lucky until he decided to mow it today...... I was in the kitchen (away from the lounge) and got back to find he'd mown right up to the patio door (ride on mower) and sprayed grass cuttings into my lounge (which my desk fan had picked up and distributed evenly around the room). My fault for leaving it open I know, and he can't be blamed, so kicking myself! DD and I have hayfever, its going to be a fun afternoon.....

Sometimes all you can hear on a day like this is 'mmmmmrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr'. How about we petician for 'permitted mowing days' tee hee!

in France it's illegal to mow your grass on a sunday.

Personally, I love the sound of lawnmowers. it reminds me of my childhood, because my dad was very particular about keeping his lawn looking nice. I would much rather hear lawnmowers than the traffic I'm listening to at the moment!

TheFoosa · 22/05/2010 13:01

those strimmer things are even worse

and barking dogs

marcsalmond · 22/05/2010 13:07

sorry but its a job that has to be done. my grass is about a foot tall

I'd rather hear lawnmowers than knobber neighbour blasting their bloody radio all summer. It's so loud I can hear every word even when I'm inside my house. I'm in my garden right now and am tempted to shout at them.

Moominfamily · 22/05/2010 13:28

I'm with you. My neighbours mow their unbelievably short grass twice a week every summer, usually just after ds has gone to bed. He sleeps at the front of the house so he can't get to sleep, but their dd sleeps at the back so she is never disturbed (they never mow their back lawn in the evening )

I like lawnmowers -nice summery sound. We live near the village cricket field too and they seem to do something to that every day with abig ride on machine at about 6.30am before the groundsman goes off to his day job!
Hate Hate Hate radios though!

ErnestTheBavarian · 22/05/2010 13:37

also in Switzerland and Germany you're not allowed to mow the lawn on a Sunday or public holiday. Yet people moan about that too. I like it. ALways quiet ( no noisy work evenings or these days) peaceful bliss.

I used to live on a Pacific island and people would start mowing their lawn as early as 6 in the morning! it would drive me crazy!
