to think it's rude to flame an OP at the end of a long thread without having bothered to read the thing?

Am thinking about YoMoJo's thread about her toddler chucking sweets on the floor in Sainsbury's as an example. It's been pointed out to her several times that SWBU, and she's had the good grace and humour to accept that she was in the wrong. Despite this, other posters just pile on and add to the kicking, making her bad day, and embarrassment about the whole episode just that bit crappier.

Read the thread before launching in with criticism - and if you don't have time, don't respond!!

My goodness, you're cross. What a strange post. Obviously you are allowed express your opinion, but anyone criticising you comes in for a mouthful of abuse. You also don't seem to understand the OP's point, so I might as well leave it there.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 11:58

That was to bat, by the way, not you itsmelt.

porcamiseria · 21/05/2010 11:58

bat is even more annoyed that I am!! GO BAT

I am well up for a fight, where and when please?

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 12:02

I HATE people demeaning bullying makes it harder for actual vicims to be taken seriously.

Anyone critizing me comes in for a mouthful of abuse? Really care to back up that sweeping statement with fact?

I wasn't the one who started with the personal insults either, but hey whatever floats your boat.

cupcakesandbunting · 21/05/2010 12:02

It turned into a funny thread with the overall tone being a bit piss-takey of OP and others. It started off with some MNers getting terribly cross about the whole thing (me included) then it all simmered down and I told a few of them they looked like Rick off the Young Ones and a few strays came in and said what had already been said. It's no big deal IMO, and certainly not bullying. I've been on the receiving end of much worse but I'm still here. If I was such a sensitive flower that I might get upset by Mumsnet, I'd skip over to the other site where everyone would call me hun and stroke my hair. But I don't want that. I like the ribbery that goes on over here.

Anyway. Toughen up or go and cry into a frilly pillow is what i'm trying to say very clumsily

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 12:04

itsmeolord - the people reading the thread, that is who people usually talk to on a forum. This isn't MSN.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 12:07

Eh, it was you who accused someone of bullying and started issuing personal insults because I suggested you 'read the thread'.

As for backing up my 'sweeping statement'. Opening a post with 'Fuck off' and using the expression several times is a 'mouthful of abuse' at least where I come from.

Anyway, not sure what weird planet you're on at the moment, but as someone suggested go out and get some fresh air. And take a few deep breaths while you're at it.

(Can't wait to see your reply)

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 12:07

porcamiseria - When you are trying to deal with actual bullying and all the associated problems that brings and people are trying to say that answering some fuckers question on the internet is the same as that, i am going to be annoyed, we'll take them on.

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 12:12

I'd love you to show me where I started with personal insults before my character was assasinated.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 12:17

Well, if you can't see that for yourself................

Anyway, time to collect the kids. I could do with a bit of intelligent conversation.

porcamiseria · 21/05/2010 12:18

eh? why is bat cross with me? I am on your side Bat but getting a bit scared I might have bitten off more than I can chew!

but agree writing a pissy response to some silly post about bloody supermarkets is in no way, shape, or form bullying

I'll say it again, the people that get a flaming DESERVE it, people do have some common sense and intelligence on here

pedrothellama · 21/05/2010 12:19

I'm exhausted

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 12:23

swan - that'd be because they are just not there.

porcam - I'm not i was explaining why i was annoyed.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 12:29

I didn't ask for your opinion of me you bully!

Your words Bat. Not sure which of us they were directed at. But if that isn't a personal insult and demeaning of real bullying, I don't know what is.

Now, I really do have to collect my children.
Ta ra.

LittleMrsHappy · 21/05/2010 12:32

Oh give over, what are we in here a school play ground.

OP wishful thinking that, posters would read a whole thread beforehand, but unfortunately times is not always the case, and as Porc says, mostly they deserve the UR post.

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 12:35

Obviously you don't think you calling me rude and agressive count then becuase i said what i said in reply to that.

In the fact that you decided to tell me what i am, without actually knowing or me asking is rather more bullying than answering an OPs question.

Bless your attempt to switch timelines though.

kitcat1977 · 21/05/2010 12:51

Actually I didn't use the word 'bullying' in OP; I asked if it was unreasonable to find it rude when posters wade in uninformed on a thread and launch a fresh attack without checking to see if the OP's viewpoint has changed.

FWIW, I haven't changed my point of view (but appreciate the input), don't feel bullied, and I too enjoy the threads that descend into senseless nonsense witty repartee

OP posts:
2shoes · 21/05/2010 12:55

i think this thread is bullying the people who don't read whole threads....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/05/2010 12:58

I agree with the OP. I don't bother posting on long threads unless I have read the whole thread. OP may have conclude on page 3 that she WBU, or may have offered more details on page 5.

You risk looking a twat/arrogant to do otherwise.

I agree with whoever suggested OPs postings be higlighted

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/05/2010 13:00

I need to spell better as well

No. I know its generally thought of as bad ettiquette to only respond to OP. But actually if you post in AIBU its good to get a raw response over one which has been swayed by the rest of the thread.

I always excuse myself for not reading the whole thread, but its not a crime. FFS who has the time to read the huge ones from start to finish anyway?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/05/2010 13:05

foureleven Nobody said it was a crime. Misdemeanour, maybe.

Pikelit · 21/05/2010 13:12

"And if you disagree, I'll see in you the car park at 2pm with my gang."

With the greatest respect, I doubt you'll be hard enough. But then you probably came in from the car park on page two and I've missed the rumble altogether.
