to think it's rude to flame an OP at the end of a long thread without having bothered to read the thing?

Am thinking about YoMoJo's thread about her toddler chucking sweets on the floor in Sainsbury's as an example. It's been pointed out to her several times that SWBU, and she's had the good grace and humour to accept that she was in the wrong. Despite this, other posters just pile on and add to the kicking, making her bad day, and embarrassment about the whole episode just that bit crappier.

Read the thread before launching in with criticism - and if you don't have time, don't respond!!

OP posts:
Downdog · 21/05/2010 11:01

YABU - if there are 10 pages of comments, you are just as entitled to reply to the OP as the people on the first page did.

Are you suggesting everyone MUST read all the comments on a thread (some are very long) before being qualified/entitled to reply to OP.

Unreasonable, unnecessary and unduly controlling suggestion.

cupcakesandbunting · 21/05/2010 11:02

Doesn't the OP have the option to disregard any replies that she isn't overly enamoured with anyway?

BitOfFun · 21/05/2010 11:04

The trouble with people not at least skim-reading the entire thread is that they end up looking like numpties. By posting at the end without bothering how the thread has developed, they are in effect saying that their opinion is worth reading but nobody else's is.

marrs · 21/05/2010 11:08

I haven't read the whole thread (can't be arsed) but I think YABVVU.

BitOfFun · 21/05/2010 11:14
Grin
Tidey · 21/05/2010 11:16

People only post on AIBU cos they're spoiling for a rumble.

And if you disagree, I'll see in you the car park at 2pm with my gang.

OldMacEIEIO · 21/05/2010 11:19

tidey
where's yer tool ?

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 11:20

I agree with OP. Lot of people just can't wait to jump in and criticise, regardless of how the thread has develped. They just make themselves look a bit stupid. YANBU.

pedrothellama · 21/05/2010 11:24

Ohh Tidey!

My chairman at work is a total prick and just been rude to me - I really fancy a fight. Can we make it earlier? Don't care who's gang I'm in.

[Thread hijack - sorry]

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 11:25

YABU Are only the first 20 posters opinions valid now? It is the nature of forums. To say it is bullying demeans actual bullying IMO.

frakkit · 21/05/2010 11:26

At least read the first few posts and the last few (which should give an idea of how the thread has moved on).

cupcakesandbunting · 21/05/2010 11:27

What fahkin' tool, Oldmac?

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 11:33

Read the thread ABat. The OP's point is that the original poster has come back and said graciously that she now accepts she was unreasonable, other poster still keep coming back and ranting at her.

itsmeitsmeolord · 21/05/2010 11:34

YANBU. On that particular thread the op had posted several times to say that she agreed she was unreasonable and was in fact embarassed and sad about it.

Still the comments kept coming though. Not nice and yes I am fully aware this is AIBU. I don't think calling it bullying demeans bullying either though.
Bullying takes many forms, online bullying being one of them.

AndieWalsh · 21/05/2010 11:35

Havent seen the thread in question, but sometimes I admit - I simply cannot be arsed to read 100 replies, so wade in and put my size 8 in it.

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 11:41

Fuck off telling me to read the thread, i have!

I was replying to points made in the thread, maybe you should have a read of it!

It's not fucking bullying to not read a bloody thread properly. It would be bullying if after having read the OPs turn around they still stuck the boot in. This is not internet bullying PMSL

The point also is they don't keep coming back ranting, they are commenting on her OP which is what a talk board is all about, AIBU is asking a question you can't saying it's bullying when people answer the question asked FFS!

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 11:46

You said YABU, so you are obviously replying to the OP.

And her point was that it is bullying to keep coming back telling someone they are unreasonable when they have already admitted it. Not that it is bullying to not read a thread properly.

By the way, you are incredibly rude and agressive.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 21/05/2010 11:51

i think its far worse to start a thread about a thread!

itsmeitsmeolord · 21/05/2010 11:51

People were sticking the boot in after reading her turnaround though, look at the posts immediately after hers.

No need to swear at me, for someone who is pissing themselves laughing you appear to be rather cross.

bibbitybobbityhat · 21/05/2010 11:53

OP - yanbu. I quite agree. From time to time I post a general thread asking very nicely if people would please read the threads they post on just to keep the place tidy looking at not so scrappy. And usually I receive ritual abuse for this off the wall notion .

But pmsl at the idea you should just jump in and post anyway even if 500 people have posted before you. God, isn't life too short for that? Besides, as Bof and others have said, it just makes the latecomer look like a twat!

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 11:54

I didn't ask for your opinion of me you bully!

There was a full stop after YABU did you not read it properly, accusing others of the very things you do yourself!

Who keeps coming back? People post for the first time replying to the OP nothing else, that is not bullying.

bibbitybobbityhat · 21/05/2010 11:56

"I agree with OP. Lot of people just can't wait to jump in and criticise, regardless of how the thread has develped. They just make themselves look a bit stupid. YANBU."

Never a truer word spoken Swanandduck.

Shouldn't you shouty folk be outside enjoy the sunshine or summat?

cupcakesandbunting · 21/05/2010 11:57

Why would I go outside when I'm having a perfectly entertaining time here?

Now, where's that bag of popcorn?

ABatInBunkFive · 21/05/2010 11:57

I will swear if i like last time i looked this wasn't babycentre, though it seems some wish it so.

Some people have their layout set to pages, some not, if you read the OP scroll down and post, you wont go near the post that comes just before yours until after you've posted, that isn't bullying. Slightly egocentrical perhaps but not bullying.

itsmeitsmeolord · 21/05/2010 11:57

bat who are you talking to? I haven't got a clue what you are on about!
