DD (13mo) has been poorly with various viruses for 5 weeks. On Tuesday we spent 5 hours on the children's ward cos even with nurofen and calpol her temp wouldn't come below 39. She just wanted to sleep and as an ex-27-weeker they wanted to be careful with her. It came down in the end and, with regular doses has stayed down and she's happier.

DH has had a fair amount of time off recently with awful hayfever which caused sinusitis. This morning I woke up (at 4 as that's when DD decided morning was) with a temp of over 39. Not coming down much with paracetamol. DH has offered to come home to look after DD but I feel he should use his compassionate days for more important things. I'm feeling pretty rough and achy, but if she went to sleep it'd help! Needless to say she's only had 5 minutes so far today instead of the 45mins-2hrs she usually has.

Am I being silly to tell DH to stay at work? Should we save his compassionate days for something more important? You can tell, I have little sympathy for people who turn a cold into the end of the world!

Do your worst!

YABS... Get DH home, IMO you'll make yourself even worse in the long run with a temperature that high if you do not get some rest.

Your partner can take it as Carer's / Parent's leave, I can't remember how much you get per year off the top of my head but his HR department will know about it.

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks mumofthree. Looks like today's going to be one of her longer-than-normal sleeps. Hooray. She's already been down for 1hr 15mins and often it's only 45 mins. Feeling a little better after lunch and a short rest. Not long till DH leaves work now (well, less than 2 hours!)

Glad you're feeling better and DD had a lovely long nap to give you a rest...

He has played with her since he got in and fed her and now he's bathing her. I'll go up for story, and that's the end of my involvement tonight, I hope!

Fingers crossed she'll sleep through tonight.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.
