just found this Is the number you are on about 0906 ? Looks like it's a scam.

I googled "child benefit" and the first page that came up had 0911 612 5808 as the number for the helpline, so it might be a scam page. I used the saynoto0870 (bookmark that page everybody, very very helpful) and got the number as above.
