Strange going-ons with light bulb

Please help me, I know this is going to sound mad but I just don't understand what is going on here. Last night, I turned light on deliberately in spare room meaning to leave it on all night (don't ask). I came down in the early hours to find the room in darkness. I tried the light switch (thinking bulb had blown) and the light came on again. I feel sure I had turned it on and hadn't switched it off again. It is a "low energy bulb".
What's going on? My alarm clock (which I use rarely) also went off when I hadn't set it to go off- it's not connected to mains.
I would really, really appreciate some responses.

For the light buld I would say power cut. For the alarm clock I have no idea...

marantha · 16/05/2010 17:02

But wouldn't it just go back on again AFTER power came back on? Anyway, thanks for replying. Appreciated. Any electricians here who can help? BTW, not drunk last night.

Someone else in the house has turned it off maybe??

marantha · 16/05/2010 17:07

Husband says that he didn't. I know this is trivial, very trivial- it would seem even as I type. I know that but I just don't understand it.

Has anything else happened in your house? Things going missing etc etc. I thinkw e have a ghost as things go missing then turn up where they are meant to be a few days later, sometimes wihtin minutes.

Leave it on tonight and see if it goes off again .

Some one is doing things in their sleep?

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 16/05/2010 17:12

You are haunted. You have a poltergeist. You will wake up in the morning to find every drawer in the house open and your husband stuck to the ceiling!

marantha · 16/05/2010 17:16

Please, I know this sounds funny, but it is freaking me out. Surely there's got to be a rational, logical explanation?

Sorry. I posted a thread just like this a couple of weeks ago, have you considered that you or dp may have gone to the loo in the night and switched it off? You may not necessarily remember.

marantha · 16/05/2010 17:42

He was a bit drunk so it is a possibility that he did so and didn't remember. Oh god, I sound like a nutter making a fuss about this, but it's getting to me.

Weird things like this happen to me all the time. I just put it down to being incredibly scatterbrained and forgetful. I've come home from a 5 day holiday to find the back door wide open - and I could swear on my mother's life I closed and locked it. Then it happened again.

The mostly likely rational explanation is that someone in your house did it, but has no recollection of it.

marantha · 16/05/2010 17:56

Yes, I suppose my husband was a bit drunk last night, and it was late and I was tired. He probably turned it off without a second thought. picmaestress -ever thought of a tick-list before you go on holiday?
