I am bemused at the panty-pissing hysteria on the subject of that clip. There are far, far worse things to get upset, anguished and angry about - this is a mildy naff, slightly age-inappropriate bit of nonsense. It's not genocide.

tittybangbang · 15/05/2010 10:56

Agree with you SolidGoldBrass, except I'd substitute 'hugely' for 'mildly' naff.

Bless those poor little girls - they're trying so hard. They must have put HOURS of practice in.

Shame the moves are so making.

I saw it and immediately thought of Little Miss Sunshine.

Would love to see the audience's faces.

Nancy66 · 15/05/2010 11:06

pretty unpleasant.

the sickest thing I've ever seen? No, not by a long shot

Sakura · 15/05/2010 11:13

SGB, I know your view on prostitution, about women's choice. I respect your views on that, even though I disagree with them
BUT
In this case I think you've been desensitized to sexual images. That image of those little girls doing that dance was sick. They weren't adults, they were kids. They don't know what the hell their dancing stands for. It stands for sexual availability, that they're gagging for it. It's absolutely fine for women to dance like that, not for kids.

Can't believe I clicked on it, curiosity got the better of me. I agree with porcamiseria: that clip was image-sharing and it's wrong to spread it around the internet.
OP, I'm sure there's millions of dodgy images of kids on the internet, although I've never "inadvertantly" come accross any myself. Next time please don't pass it on. Just ignore and vow never to visit the sight you saw it on again.

Gotta wonder about the parents

Sakura · 15/05/2010 11:23

OP, I think you are completely right to be outraged by that image, but I think you were misguided to post it. We all know there are all kinds of inappropriate images of kids (hence the mumsnet campaign). There are ways of dealing with it, but spreading them around doesn't help the kids or the cause. If you want to do something about it, there are better ways.

tittybangbang · 15/05/2010 11:24

That said Sakura, I live in an inner city area where a lot of young children are into street dancing. The West Indian kids in my dd's class do that butterfly dance - very suggestive, as a lot of dancehall moves are:
dancehall

A lot of today's popular R+B dance choreography (which is what the OP's link shows) comes from traditional dancehall and african dance, which does involve a lot of aggressive booty shaking and hip-thrusting.

My own dd dances like this - or would do if she has the energy.

Sakura · 15/05/2010 11:26

Actually I do think the OP is getting a bad rap because he's a bloke. Maybe I'm guilty of that too, come to think about it...

Sakura · 15/05/2010 11:27

X posts with tittybang

Not changing what I said in my other posts, just not sure if a female poster would have been attacked in the same way

tittybangbang · 15/05/2010 11:40

At the end of year discos at dd's primary school there'll always be a good number of year 5's and 6's dancing like this - and doing it really well. Do you think I should run up and tell them to stop it because they might be inflaming a paedophile with their moves?

whine

Aitch · 15/05/2010 12:09

oh no don't worry mnhubbie, i didn't say you deserved a beating, just that i could see why you were getting a hard time, that's all. and yyy it was the daily mailishness of it, like i say absent of context it just seemed a bit of a bizarre thing to post. no judgement on my part really, just bemusement.

and yes, very little miss sunshine i thought too. how weird americans are....

Rosa · 15/05/2010 12:15

Well my 4 year old is doing a smurf dance and a few of the 'traditional grease' moves in her gym club show this evening and I am very glad about it.

sharbie · 15/05/2010 12:22

I think its horrid ( just watched a few seconds yuk ) but I find it sad that people actually call this dancing. Its not really is it?? Have we gone so far down this road (raunchy pop videos etc) that we call this dancing? Its not at all in my opinion - more like sexual posturing, fine if you're an adult in the music business but so inappropriate here.

tethersend · 15/05/2010 15:00

I wonder what the sickest thing on the internet actually is...

MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 17:39

Um... tethersend... There is a thing that can be abbreviated to 2g1c and another named after an animal similar to a sheep. DO NOT search for either, ever. You never need to see either image and once seen you'll never get rid of the images in your head. Lets just say I had "friends" when I was younger who enjoyed sending some sick stuff. Needless to say their mails divert to junk now if they are still coming. This isn't a jokey warning or even a "if easily offended" thing just don't look. One involves poo and the other where poo comes from... if there is anything else out there sicker that is legal I really don't want to know!

Probably opened myself up to more criticism for even knowing about either image but tbh they are far from a secret and are very well known and parodied internet memes.

LynetteScavo · 15/05/2010 17:43

I saw this on AOL, and while the costumes are and I certainly wouldn't have chosen that particular song or some of the moves...these kids are so unbelievably talented it's unreal.

I just hope they can do something more suitable for their age next time.

FranSanDisco · 15/05/2010 17:48

I watched it without music and was [shocked]. Then I watched it with music and it was not as shocking and I laughed. They are working so hard. Showed it to dd 9 yo with the music and she laughed as well. I think the outfits are awful and some of the crutch thrusting in bad taste. I would not be happy for dd to be up there on the stage but I agree with those who say they are good dancers.

ruddynorah · 15/05/2010 18:11

well, they're VERY good dancers doing an amazing job at imitating beyonce.

they should be in different outfits though. even beyonce did it in an all in one.

tethersend · 15/05/2010 18:24

Must...not...press...go...

MarthaLovesMatthew · 15/05/2010 18:26

Only watched the first 5 seconds...but really quite shocked that anyone would think this is acceptable. The outfits alone are inappropriate.

I find it bizarre as well as very unsettling.

izzybiz · 15/05/2010 18:38

Its very innapropriate, its uncomfortable to watch, the outfits are hideous and the dance moves are very adult, but I'm sure there are much sicker things to be found on the internet unfortunately.

NomDePlume · 15/05/2010 18:45

I'm not clicking but OP, if it is the 'sickest image ever posted' and so you disapprove so much of its existence WHY are you continuing to spread it by posting it on a message board ?

I'm sure 98% of the posters who have posted before me have already pointed out this irony though.

It's bizarre that America is generally so conservative, but that pageants and recitals like this (and cheerleading) seem so common.

grumpypants · 15/05/2010 19:06
