shocking. Provacative. Shameful. Irresponsible.

A bit little miss sunshine.

TheNextMrsDepp · 15/05/2010 00:07

OP was only asking for an opinion on this and didn't deserve to be shot down. Agree they are great dancers, but why so sexualised?

Greensleeves · 15/05/2010 00:09

erm, if I were the OP I would be REALLY pissed off at some of the responses here

we regularly post things and go "ugh" - I don't see the difference with this one

is it because this poster is a bloke?

fwiw I think the dancing is disgusting and I find it depressing that it is allowed, by the parents and the competition organisers - and also depressing and worrying that little girls WANT to do this stuff

Valpollicella · 15/05/2010 00:11

I think its sexualised dancing slightly due to the 'thrusting' for want of a better word.

MNH, fair enough. I can see your point.

MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 00:12

It was on one of those joke a day websites and came on an RSS feed. Can't remember the site and I've killed the feed now, sorry.

Thing is even if they are good dancers and even putting the outfits out of mind the moves are very sexual, too sexual. I avoid helping out on school talent nights not because I am a miserable sod. Not just because of it. but because I don't want to see little girls dancing and dressing sexually.

well its not the worst i've seen! agree that its the bikini type costumes that make it worse, the gyrating is too much for me, wouldn't have dd doing that but some of it is what you see little african dancers doing, like tribal dancing. If it was african kids in costumes would it be so bad?

It's truly horrible. Anything I've ever seen to do with pageants seems to involve the sexualisation of little girls, mainly to fulfill some strange ambition of their parents.

MrsGokWan · 15/05/2010 00:24

Imarriedafrog MNH and I have 3 boys.

MrsRhettButler · 15/05/2010 00:26

oh its mrgokwan isn't it! aww hes a nice guy ladies i knew i recognized the name

piprabbit · 15/05/2010 00:26

As I said, not something I would want my DD to be doing - but not because it is twisted sick (I'm 99% sire that the adults involved just think the girls are wonderful little dancers and don't they look cute), but very icky.

SO I would have to disagree and say YABU - IMO it is not one of the sickest images ever posted.

I wouldn't post anything sicker... but you are entitled to your opinion and I can see where you are coming from.

I just think there are years and years in which they can dance and dress like that. Why not let them have a childhood first?

MrsRhettButler TY

TY to many of you in fact I shouldn't have lost my temper.

I'm glad you wouldn't MNH - I'm not thrilled that this footage has been doing the rounds recently.
However I remember when this sort of thing used to appear regularly on terrestrial TV as entertainment for the masses, and I recall the photo of a lady on MN who had been beaten by her partner . I think it probably comes down to individual responses.

I wish I hadn't clicked on the link.
Horrible, horrible.

It's awful. Yes, they are amazing dancers but that's totally inappropriate at their age. Who would even want to see their small child dancing and dressing like that?

I once was at a show here in the UK that was full of dance school kids, and a young boy about the same age as these girls did a rather provocative solo, involving lots of hip-thrusting and gyrating. It lookd and felt so wrong to me, yet most of the british audience seemed to be enjoying it.

MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 00:45

Thing is I am so utterly not a prude (really don't get prudishness at all) but when it comes to stuff like this with children I turn into a Hate Mail reader... I just don't get why folks do it except to appeal to people on a sexual level fgs let them be kids.

OK - I think that's probably where you and I really differ on this one.

You assume that the parents/teachers of these children are deliberately using their daughters in a sexual way - almost pimping them? Yes, that would be sickening beyond belief.

I assume that the adults involved are simply blind to how wrong it is for a little girl to dress and dance like this, they think it is nothing more than cute and entertaining. They are ill-informed and ignorant, but I don't believe they intended to sexual exploit their children.

MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 00:58

Fair enough.

Piprabbit that makes me think of the quote in Blazing Saddles that went something like:

"you know these people they are the salt of the Earth, simple, basic hardworking country folks... you know, idiots."

I see your point but can't conceive of how they could be so blind. But then again I don't see why year 7 girls need to have their noses pierced and come to school wearing make up, short skirts or tight (embarrassingly tight) leggings either.

And the other side of this the beauty pageants. i'll just say they'd never be for me but I can see why some people might think their daughter would enjoy it blah, blah... actually I can't but I'm trying to keep an open mind... but why can't they just do them dressed like girls? Why do they have to have false tan, more slap than a drunk 18 year old covering acne, heels, miniskirts and have swimwear rounds. Surely someone must realise the message they are sending out!
