AIBU to think that this image is one of the sickest ever posted and that there is something serious wrong with the parents of these children?

Yes - why didn't someone say 'stop - this is getting out of hand' before they got to the fake tans and false teeth (to fill the gaps when your milk teeth fall out). Did nobody have a moments insight into where it was all heading?

MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 01:06

The teeth too?!

Pennies · 15/05/2010 06:38

I'm not clicking on the link but was wondering if this was a UK image or and American one?

Just wondering because if it's one from here it might be worth adding to the MN campaign against premature sexualisation of children.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 15/05/2010 06:46

Well, it is not right that they are dressed/dancing like that. But I WISH that was the sickest ever posted, i'm sure there are MUCH MUCH worse images of children out there, sadly.

TiggyR · 15/05/2010 07:34

OK, people afraid to click - don't be. It's been showing on the AOL home page for the last 24 hours so you are not going to be damaged for life or arrested for watching it. But it is vile, revolting, outrageous, bewildering, sad and utterly, utterly depressing. WTF were their parents thinking?

Nice to know that paedophiles can get that one for free without even having to work hard for it. Meanwhile, we are not allowed to photograph our own children in the nativity play in case it falls into the hands of some sad grotty little man who has a small-boy-with-teatowel-on-the-head fetish.

BouncingTurtle · 15/05/2010 07:45

Utterly bizarre video.
Parents are completely barking!
Don't care how talented those little girls are, their talent is being used in a clearly inappropriate manner.
Sorry to say that it doesn't surprise me coming from the US, home of those vile little baby beauty pageants.

TiggyR · 15/05/2010 07:47

Just want to say, OP I think you are getting an unnecessarily hard time on this thread and I never questioned your motives for posting it for a second. If you'd been a woman it would all have been very different.

I agree they are extremely good dancers, but I'm revolted by the outifts, think the dance is WAAAAAY to sexually suggestive for their age, and as for the facial expressions . I can understand totally why the little girls are into it - they only have to turn on any urban/RnB TV channel to watch this stuff all day long, pre watershed. Sadly, this is what they aspire to - this is what being a grown-up is about to them. What I don't get is the complete lack of judgement/taste and alarming irresponsibility on the part of the parents and the choreographer.

supergreenuk · 15/05/2010 07:49

Different outfits and remove the sexy moves.....they are b*** fantastic dancers. They have a dance future ahead of them.

Yes I see what everyone means but it could have been worse. Far too much hype on this and surely it making the news means we are ALL checking it out and drawing attention to it.

supergreenuk · 15/05/2010 07:52

That is not directed at the OP but at the people who wrote the news article.

Tee2072 · 15/05/2010 07:58

I haven't read the whole thread.

They are 7 or 8. It is a dance competition. It is not photoshopped.

And as a person who has studied dance most of her life? They are really really talented.

Ignore the costumes and some of the hip thrusting and watch the rest. They are amazing.

I agree Tee2072. The whole thing was fantastic but that one move....cringe.

tethersend · 15/05/2010 08:07

Nobody is commenting on whether or not they are good dancers- that's completely irrelevant.

The issue is that the instructor/choreographer and the judges of this show deemed this dance to be appropriate. In fact, many adults saw this performance before it hit our screens, and no one of them saw fit to raise concerns.

The problem is that this is the fashionable way to dance- little girls just think they are in a music video.

It's horrible. Thrusting hips, dance hall moves, faces contorted. Really, really horrible. Thrusting crotch.
It is dancing usually done by women to give the audience a thrill. Here it isbeing done by primary school children.

smallorange · 15/05/2010 08:19

I think there is a difference too between little girls putting together dance routines they've seen on TV and adults choreographing these moves for a show.

And then put them in bikinis.

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 15/05/2010 08:20

have just watched the whole dance and they are truely amazing dancers and clearly have been badly lead by their instrutor and parents, which is very wrong! And who on earth thought it was ok to dress them like lap dancers!

butterscotch · 15/05/2010 09:06

I'd never let my dd's take part in a comp with those outfits or dance moves how disgusting it is!

Agree with earlier posters OP is getting an unfairly hard time over this post!

Also agree red American pagents are sick god help this country with us having "high school proms" Will they puh pagents here as well??? I'm sure parents like Jordon who already using fake tan on her daughter would take part and how many other wannabes???

Aitch · 15/05/2010 09:18

i think the OP got a hard time, and not completely undeservedly so, because his OP ranted rather - 'aibu to think that this image is one of the sicked ever posted' - and yet he posted it... and then everyone clicked so that we coudl all be suitably appalled.

and there was no context whatsoever, it was just a fifteen second loop of grinding schoolgirls... you must admit it, it is a bit of a bizarre OP, no background, no 'this just came into me via a newsfeed', no nothing, just the wee dancing girls at their worst. plus, there's no way a parent lifted that section and put it online, that was someone with dodgy motives (whether joking or worse).

i wouldn't have raised so much as an eyebrow at a link to any of the articles, because that would have given context. without it, it was a bit strange tbh. there are worse things out there on the internet by far, without the news story this clip is just another bit of dubious www grossness, imo.

pickledmonkey · 15/05/2010 09:24

dance competitions are like that though aren't they and america is a bit wacko when it comes to things like that - but hardly the sickest image on the www

hocuspontas · 15/05/2010 09:25

If the parents are anything like us at our dancing school, the first time you know anything about the routine or outfits is when you see them on stage on the night! The baddie here is the dance instructor. Inappropriate.

MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 09:46

I couldn't add a context from a news site because I hadn't seen it on one of them. I thought one of the girls was a Cyrus. TY to most.

I'm sorry Aitch I sort of see your point however it is a legal image if it had been bad enough to require a warning I wouldn't have posted it. If I ever were to put a link in again I will be sure to explain what is in it. And again on the context... I deserved a beating because I didn't say any more about where the image came from? WTF I said the truth on that. I'm not interested in finding out any more about it as it offends me. I was posting it as part of MN's opposition to the sexualising of children.

OP posts:
MNHubbie · 15/05/2010 10:00

But I did it in a Hate Mail way in retrospect so I get your point Aitch. But at the same time the attacks weren't based upon my taking the image out of context which is the Hate Mail way.

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 15/05/2010 10:21

"Nobody is commenting on whether or not they are good dancers- that's completely irrelevant."

It's not completely irrelevant. They ARE amazing dancers. The costumes are awful I agree but you see similar things on Britain's got talent or that sky dance thing.

I think it's very very odd that someone would make a gif of that particular part of the routine, most probably it's lifted from someone's avatar on another forum. The performance as a whole on the other link is not all that bad apart from the costumes.

porcamiseria · 15/05/2010 10:36

so why post it then?

and I am sure there is sicker shit out there!

i do see what you mean, but in general I dont approve of sharing stuff that could get some paedo all excited, to be honest

how do you know noone on here is a paed and you have inadvertantly bought this to their attention

image sharing, NICE
