Is it me? I'm full of chagrin and disappointment with HAVEN HOLIDAYS. I'm a mummy blogger and they sent me an email offering me a free holiday if I replied immediately.

I replied immediately. Enthusiastically saying YES!
It happened to be my birthday. As a single parent and a 51 year old my birthdays are not widely celebrated so the invitation was really wonderful.

I've just received an email telling me that I HAVEN'T got a free holiday. They are flogging me a holiday at a discount instead. They say this is due to the numbers who replied. But since they said the criteria was first come first served and I replied immediately clearly some other measure of choosing the freebie went on other than the timing of my reply. No doubt the choice was made on the basis of who they think will give them the biggest coverage of their story via their blogs and media connections. Well, fair enough. But they INVITED me to a FREE holiday if I replied immediately, which I did. So now I feel as if I have been turned down, my blog dissed and that a nice thing that happened on my birthday is not very nice after all. They raised my expectations and then dashed them.

it leaves me DISLIKING HAVEN HOLIDAYS.

Ugh, I had the worst holiday ever at a Haven.

The caravan smelled of wet dog, which was unsurprising as when I opened a cupboard a big bag of Baker's Complete fell out.

(Just my bad experience though, probably not true across the board)

GypsyMoth · 14/05/2010 16:21

ugh wet dog|!! i'm in a superior home apparently.

squeaver · 14/05/2010 16:22

You can tell she's a blogger. She's not just pissed off, she's full of CHAGRIN

zippy79 · 14/05/2010 16:25

Who would want to go on a Haven Holiday anyway!??!?!?

MalsFlannel · 14/05/2010 16:30

ILoveTiffany - Stop showing off!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 14/05/2010 16:40

arf squeaver

mayorquimby · 14/05/2010 16:42

offered chance to win a free holiday followed by an offer of a discount holiday when you were unsuccessful in winning the first prize.
yup, that's pretty rude.

Sassybeast · 14/05/2010 16:48

You'd have to pay me to go on a Haven holiday. Especially if there was ANY chance at all that my caravan would be next door to one occupied by a 'mummy blogger'

SixtyFootDoll · 14/05/2010 17:39

tee hee at sassy!

Lulumaam · 14/05/2010 17:42

i imagine they emailed 100s if not 1000s to get email addys and other info they can use to market to

i bet there was plenty of small print too

i would not believe for one minute that replying to an email instantly would get me a free holiday.

i imagine lots of people replied instantly, and everyone was offered a discount, whihc is really quite nice

so you are really going quite over the top and your reaction is a bit silly

you clearly have no idea of how marketing works

you are 51? you are coming across as a spoilt child

Lulumaam · 14/05/2010 17:43

I do like chagrin. Don't hear it nearly enough these days.

mangoandlime · 14/05/2010 17:54

YABU

Purely for being a mummy blogger

claricebeansmum · 14/05/2010 17:56

Does your bank honour all the cheques that Readers Digest send you?

You are living in cloud cuckoo land.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 14/05/2010 18:03

yabu - there is not such thing as a free holiday - haven't you noticed?!

VoulezVouzCrochezAvecJACK · 14/05/2010 18:28

Dude. CTFO.

majafa · 14/05/2010 18:50

I worked for them at HO in Reservations (booking the holidays in otherwords)for over 8 yrs, and never got a free holiday, perks or otherwise.

majafa · 14/05/2010 18:59

Answering the phone to bad tempered, sometimes down right rude people, who thought they had a right too.....
Or as in the 'old days', digging out a booking form just to find that the customer/travel agent, was wrong....
And still be nice and find an alternative for them...as bck then the customer was 'always right', NOT...

gibba8 · 14/05/2010 20:29

I was offered a free holiday with Haven 3 years ago.
Had a great 4 night totally free holiday in a basic but clean caravan.
They were offering free holidays to customers who had booked another holiday with them.
Think they were trying to fill up the parks during term time.

you get owt for nowt.you fell for a marketing scam.now stop being a sore loser.

methusulamum · 20/05/2010 19:43

Ha- just had a good laugh at some of the comments. Especially the ones about the word chagrin- but I'm amazed that so few of you get fed up with companies promising stuff falsely. I just get so bored with being offered free things that aren't. Cheap marketing tricks are just so- well, cheap- but it sound like most of you don't mind and then, from the way some of you describe it sounds like I had a lucky escape!

Cheap marketing trick yes - but was it ? Haven holidays are now on MN . Any PR is good PR ?

No such thing as someone offering a free holiday , unless it is a competition ( should know did win a holiday once ! )

ouryve · 20/05/2010 20:00

We went on a Haven holiday, once. Stayed 2 nights out of the 4 we had booked because it was such a filthy shithole. We complained and they were full of excuses for all the mould and dried puke and cigarette burns in the chalet, assured us it wasn't typical and still send us brochures!
