i loved Buffy, ended up having to buy all the series on DVD despite being in my 30's! Buffy was a strong female kick ass kinda girl. i loved the series, the characters. i got totally hooked along with the whole family. i felt sort of lost when we got to the finale.

so it was with interest i watched Twilight and New Moon with my teenage dd....

now i can sort of understand why women like the twilight thing....all dark and brooding, but purlease....does Bella really need 'protecting' by a vampire and werewolf who fight over her? while she sits and simpers?

id rather DD watch buffy.

No idea, never felt like wanting to read Twilight and I find RP has a weird chin.

But Buffy rocked!

its like going back to the 40's when films relayed a 'message'....marlon brando = live fast, die young,
brief encounter = do right by your marriage vows no matter what

its ok, as long as DD realises that the message being sent out is coming from a perspective that doesnt match everyones views and that she has a choice.

maybe i am reading way more into it than i should!

am going to get her to watch buffy for some balance!

oooh id just like to reply to some posters:

no, edward does not ostracise bella from her family [doesnt mind doing it to her best guy friend who help her out of her-really, really pathetic- spiral of nothingness]

its the fact that Bella chooses to do so because of him.

and theres a twilight haters thread? TO THE BOOK SECTION!

ThatVikRinA22 · 14/05/2010 00:21

this thread isnt a love in you know. im really disliking the twilight thing.

just found the buffy smashed trailer on you tube - now thats what i call hot. (perv emoticon!)

really getting buffy back out now - id rather dd watch that anyday!

Yes I think the reason Twilight is so fucking annoying to so many women is that the author is so blatant about her anti-sex, anti-women bullshit superstitious agenda.

zazen · 14/05/2010 00:50

I don't think Bella has time to simper actually Vicar.. she's too busy cooking and cleaning for her pathetic and dysfunctional father.. what did he eat before she came to live with him? Did he ever so his own laundry? - and why can't he do it now that she's living there? And feed himself and do the grocery shopping ... the list goes on.. WTF.

Twilight: - immature teen has to choose between cannibalism or beastiality, or slavery!

SolidGoldBrass · 14/05/2010 00:54

Thing is, I actually really like vampire smut. I was mad about the Anita Blake books, and also quite enjoy some of Kelley Armstrong's work - and even among the mostly lame and generic Hamilton imitators, there's some good stuff knocking around. But most of these stories have fairly kick-arse heroines who do things (they are often embroiled in some or other catch-the-baddie plot) and have networks of supportive friends and sidekicks. Oh and there's plenty of kinky sex as well.
