To think this is a daft thing to say

A friend's status on FB says 'Fed up with being so busy at work all the time. Might get knocked up so I can have more time off'

WTF? Sure she's only joking, but kind of offensive to people who have children if she thinks her job is harder work and keeps her busier than children?

Actually, I probably am BU. So as not to drip feed info, this is someone who has already irritated me by slagging off a member of her own family for having a baby out of wedlock, or to put in her words, 'she had An Illegitimate'. Apparently it's the 1950s again.

Status update is fine - just means she wants a change from work doesn't it?

Illegitimate is

YANBU

She sounds like an ARSE - defriend her - go on, you know you want to!

firsttimemum77 · 12/05/2010 21:59

YANBU!!!!! I work full time and have a 2.9 year old!!! my employment is a pretty stressfu. Environment (political!) BUT compared to being mum it's piss easy!!!

thisisyesterday · 12/05/2010 22:00

oh i don't think it's that bad! it's the kind of thing i said after I has ds1 and then went back to work

and i did it too

firsttimemum77 · 12/05/2010 22:00

Stressfu?? u know what I meant!

Botbot · 12/05/2010 22:01

Just think, smugly, to yourself: 'she'll learn'.

SixtyFootDoll · 12/05/2010 22:02

YABU her update isnt offensive at all.

Vallhala · 12/05/2010 22:03
  1. Depends on what she does for a living, though imho being a f/t parent is hard work and mind-numbingly boring. Great for some and good luck to them, but not my ideal.
  1. Her '1950's' comment sounds to me like she's criticising those who are slating the lone mum, as in, "FGS, so what she's a lone mum, it's not the 1950's you know!".

Though I've probably misunderstood that bit and only you know the background. If I'm wrong, which is nowt unusual, then she's being deeply unpleasant in slating the lone mum but wrt her job vs being a mum, she has no experience of the latter so is making a niave but perhaps not uncommon assumption.

Offer to do a job swap for a week, your kids for her job. And watch her go running back with relief afterwards.

AnnieLobeseder · 12/05/2010 22:04

I'd say let her get herself knocked up! She'd be so very, very sorry!!!

buttinginagain · 12/05/2010 22:06

Okay, thanks all for replying. I think it was just supposed to be a silly/funny thing to say. Still think the single mum thing's stupid, but some people do still think that way I guess.

Maybe she is a bit shy and announcing a pregnancy? That's how one of my mates did it.
