this is new politics the like of which i've never seen. humility amongst politicians who have to acknowledge that they don't have a mandate.

labour hopefully about to break down in order to build up again in a truly progressive, democratic, socialist form.

the tories moving to the centre rather than right (or moving right and imploding).

the libdems holding the balance of power and doing everything they can to make voters more powerful in this country.

it's all good.

I like the Panglossian take on it sophable.

compo · 11/05/2010 21:05

I hope so

Hullygully · 11/05/2010 21:06

where did you get your drugs?

EmilyStrange · 11/05/2010 21:06

You make me feel better OP. In the meantime its going to be a tough couple of years

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 21:06

It's what I wanted tbh, I was upset last general election when there wasn't a hung parliament to make them take a good look at themselveds.

goodnightmoon · 11/05/2010 21:06

it could be good. or it could be that we are already doomed and it doesn't really matter who is in power.

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 21:12

this is a much better result than either labour or cons getting an outright majority.

labour need to take a long hard look at their moral bankruptcy and the cons need to move the centre properly or expose themselves for the nutters that some of them are.

msboogie · 11/05/2010 21:14

Aitch · 11/05/2010 21:14

i'm with you, soph.

Pozzled · 11/05/2010 21:16

Also cautiously optimistic over here.

duckyfuzz · 11/05/2010 21:22

yes I agree sophable, it could turn out to be for the best, I hope so

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 21:24

a renewed interest in politics (not same old same old at all from here on in...CAN'T BE), a bypassing of the (SHITE SHITE SHITE) media to get the message to the electorate that their votes don't have to feel futile, that electoral reform could empower them, HUMILITY amongst all politicians: no one won.

i feel good about these things.

KaraThrace · 11/05/2010 21:24

I am also with sophable, this could all work out.......if not now then at least for Labour in the long run.

MNHubbie · 11/05/2010 21:27

like this. Don't necessarily agree... a little rose tinted but I like.

Fennel · 11/05/2010 21:31

I am pretty pleased that the tories didn't get a big majority, that's what they'd been expected to get until recently.

Am also pleased that Caroline Lucas got in and there's a Green MP.

I amm avoiding the news today so am not yet depressed at the forthcoming Cameron government, but a tory/libdem coalition has to be better than just tory.

And there is hope of electoral reform.

so yes I am (cautiously) hopeful.
